I prefer to avoid giving bad reviews, but the score on this restaurant seemed wildly out of whack with what we experienced. It's sadly absolutely not close to a 4.1 (the average at the time of writing).
The staff were great, no question. Sadly, that's the end of the good stuff.
A Japanese omelette with beef stew was in fact a paper-thin skin of egg over a massive mound of rice, with three - yes, only three! - pieces of beef, each half-fat, one slice of carrot and two wafer-thin slices of mushroom. I'm not exaggerating; that was the full count of stew "components" on the plate. It didn't taste of much and cost over 2,280 Yen with tax (!). The curry with mapo option was a little better; at least it had some spice; but again, it was just way, way overpriced at a crazy 2,680 yen. Bear in mind this is just a kind of cafe-style branded space down in a basement floor; it's not some high-end spot by any means.
Coffee, for 580 yen, was old-school filter that tasted like an 80s percolator job in tiny cups.
We spent over 6,700 yen on food and coffee that would have been questionable even way down at, say, 4,500. For comparison, Afuri (over in Harazuku not far from the head of Takeshite street, so another major tourist area) was about 4,700 for two big bowls of great-tasting yuzu ramen, extra meat additions, a side of extra greens and...
Read moreFood is good , staff is excellent! but it’s so expensive honestly:/ I might go again if I had tons of money to burn, but I wouldn’t order a drink cause the cups are so small and the price is so high! A ¥100 amount of drink for 6x the price. While the food is good it’s not that good. Approximately ¥4200 for 5 small pieces of beef and 4 single small veggies , a small plate of rice, a juice box worth of mango yogurt drink and a small parfait . Pricey. I’d say it’s worth maybe ¥3000 or less . However it’s inside a shinjuku subway so expensive is to be expected. If I’m feeling rich I’d eat there again. I was still hungry...
Read moreOur visit was primarily to pay homage to one of India’s forgotten freedom fighters - Rashbehari Bose. Some photographs are there but wish there was more memorabilia.
We did not expect much on the food but it was pretty good.
Their was nothing wrong with the service but just that the lady seemed quite unhappy throughout and perhaps we had come to expect more friendly service during our stay in Japan (this was our last night).
Atmosphere wasn’t bad but can be a bit more “alive”.
For us it was a “pilgrimage “ so none of the above matter but as a restaurant review, these points...
