About a hundred seats in a place that's been here since 1973. Very impressive and mature decorations, and feels like it's got a real atmosphere. Extra Halloween decorations on top. Also a number of fairly private dining and party rooms. The maitre-d said he was Indian, though they have some Nepali and Thai food on the large menu. He speaks some English, too. Also a massive drink menu, so I'm sure there's plenty of drinking at night. Considering the location, the dinner menu prices are reasonable. There were lots of Wi-Fi signals, but the restaurant recommends a GW band that is apparently incompatible with the Chromebook (so I switched to my smartphone for the review). I doubt the problem comes up very often. Covid precautions are actually done in a way to enhance the decorations: Rugs on wooden frames rather than plastic sheets.
The menu tempted me to try something called paneer makhani curry, which was a thick tomato and onion base with some kind of cheese. (The spelling checker wants to spell it differently.) Very tasty, and he juiced it a bit for me on the spice. The naan was good, though unsweet and I have to say not quite as good as the one I had at lunch. The salad was definitely superior, though the dressing was still a bit of a disappointment, just like lunch. The tandoori chicken was kind of average. I'm calling this a high four stars, too, though I suspect this is a place that is more likely to get five stars on the consistency. Also I suspect there have been a lot of memorable...
Read moreTouted as the first 1-star Michelin Ramen noodle house, this place does not disappoint. After a full morning and afternoon of shopping, we took a chance on eating here without a recommended ticket. Arrived just before 3 p.m. and waited about 1 1/4 hours but we're seated even with a party of 5. We were split up though but that's the price you pay for having a chance to eat here. Also keep in mind this is a Wednesday. It is a very small and unassuming location. No protrusive signs or elaborate architecture. Just a sliding wooden door. Order at the prepay machine. I was recommended to order the dipping noodles by other guests but opted for the special ramen with boiled egg and pork. (it's the button at the far top left of the machine and costs 1250 yen. No alcohol. Just water. You're called in and seated at the bench to cool off and wait for your turn at the bar which seats about 10. One cool. One assistant but he doesn't cook. I can see why they earned 1 star. It is the best I've had thus far. The broth was deep in flavor which was enhanced by a dab of truffle oil. The pork was cooked ever so slightly raw giving it a miniscule chewiness. Perfect! The egg is boiled perfection. Even when you break it up and think it's going to run, it doesn't. The portions are just right and I don't feel bloated or leave still hungry. I've eaten and have gone to heaven for now. On a hot and humid July day, the long wait was...
Read moreI like that this restaurant has a variety of foods you cannot normally order at a typical Indian restaurant.
We have been there more than three times. The service ranged from horrible to MMM, decent. We were once practically kicked out because they had reserved that space for a party. The organizer of the party was very concerned that we were still hanging around before his party started. We quickly rushed through lunch and left. The manager was apologetic but I still felt bad about the experience.
We once ordered some curry for kids and it was far too spicy. We send it back to the kitchen and they probably just added some milk or yogurt and sent the same thing back. It was obvious that they didn't want to remake the dish. The kids were still panting because it was still far too spicy and not enjoying their curry at all.
They offer really reasonable curry takeout sets. Really good value I'd say.
I'm very mixed about this restaurant. The taste is pretty good but he just had to kind of bad experiences there so I don't want to push my luck.
The ambiance is very nice and it's a great place for a party or gathering of friends. It seems to be a really popular place for younger people...
