Living in Japan, I've had my fair share of sushi; everything from the dodgiest conveyor belt sushi to smoky sushi bars frequented by salarymen after hours to omakase places where I'm glad I wasn't the one paying the bill.

After all that, Ume Sushi is EASILY the BEST sushi I ever had.

Every single piece was absolutely perfect in terms of texture, taste, and composition. No soy sauce or anything needed (except for the ones that the chef suggested). I can tell that the chef takes pride in choosing all the best ingredients and serving them (an incredible skill in itself). I even ate some things I normally wouldn't eat and was shocked because I realised that I actually DO like them - Ume just makes them that well! Even just the small details like the pickled ginger for cleansing your palate - easily the best I've had. I'd buy a box of it to keep in my fridge if I could!

Anyway, just get the omakase set and let them serve you the good stuff (i.e. everything). It's incredibly good value, even if you get the most expensive set. They have an English menu, as well as English explanations of each fish. It simultaneously felt like a fancy upmarket experience, and like being in their living room and being served a homemade meal. The owners are also absolutely lovely people, on top of everything!

The only negative about this whole experience is that now every single bit of sushi I'll have from here will be compared to Ume and will almost certainly be worse than Ume.

Welp, I guess I have to get that Shinkansen into Tokyo every time...

It was the best sushi I have ever eaten. Tokyo district in Düsseldorf needs a lesson! We tried some other restaurants in Tokyo but that tuna, we could not find it anywhere else… Ume Sushi is a family owned business. For generations they are serving in Tokyo and I believe kindness is in their DNA because within seconds you feel that you are taken care of! We visited them twice because we fell in love with them, the passion for their restaurant and of course that tuna! The usuals know what to order and go with the flow but we went for a ready-menu. Tuna was super delicious but also we get to know other fish types like eels, flat fish, and sea urchins etc.. On top, they served us miso soup, green tea and a dessert for free. For dessert, we got a black japanese pudding. It reminded me of helva/pekmez combination that we eat after sea food in Türkiye. I will definitely look up for its recipe(: I would love to hear their story and humor but many things got lost in translation. Regardless, we are very very lucky to find them! Thank you very much for being so kind and thank you for such a delicious...

Went here on a Thursday for lunch. They had room for us without reservation and were very nice and polite. The menu had a few set boxes where the chef makes it in front of you piece by piece. The lady did an amazing job explaining everything and helping us feel comfortable. The food was amazing! Really felt like this was a hidden gem and we made reservations for dinner as well! There is a more expensive dinner set for 11,000 Yen and worth it after finishing dinner. Great way to end our trip and celebrate my wife's birthday. This was the best sushi we had while staying in Japan for two full weeks where we did a food tour across Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. We'll be coming back the next time we're in Japan in...

Small little sushi place, with one of the sweetest owners. They were really nice and welcoming and the food was great and compared to other sushi places not that expensive. I really recommend coming here and checking the restaurant out. They even gave us complimentary Miso Soup and Matcha Ice + Tea (really good). The only thing that was a bit weird were the wooden chopsticks (usually sushi places and higher end restaurants do/did not use one-way tableware), but I guess maybe that is the aftermath of the pandemic, because I have yet to go to a restaurant in Japan in 2023 which does not only have wooden chopsticks.

Without question, this is the best sushi I've ever had and the best meal I experienced in my nearly 3 weeks in Japan. Sushi is my favorite food, and back home in Washington State there are a number of solid sushi restaurants - but this is on another level. This sushi shop is run by the most kind couple, who make you feel right at home. The fixed sushi meal is made with expertise, love, and intention. Every bite was absolutely delicious. Do yourself a favor and go here right away. Unmatched hospitality and service, incredible food. Five stars all around.
