Living in Yokohama for a bit, bills was a treat. It filled the hole in my soul that wanted to be filled with high-quality breakfast food in a classy setting.
Let's be clear: bills is not for faint of heart. If you go anytime during the weekend, you will have to wait for a seat, and then wait for your food, it is that busy. Second, the prices are higher than average and that is another thing you will have to allow before deciding to dine here. The menu prices also do not include tax, as many other places will. The bill will include an 8% tax, so be wary.
That out of the way, bills does a number of things very, very well, and that is why I personally kept coming back. Their decor and ambiance were top-notch modern dining. Sitting near one of the windows, you can see the ocean or look out on the red-brick warehouse area, which is quite stimulating. As far as food options go, the menu is short, but it is possible to eat on the cheap there if you don't want to go the full meal route. Pick your items wisely, avoid drinks aside from water. If you have any specific food allergies or preparation style you would prefer, let the staff know when you order. Numerous complaints in the reviews decry the eggs for being soft - if you want them well-done though, let the staff know and they will try to accommodate the request. I usually switched between the Full Aussie or the pancakes, but other companions chose from around the menu and no one was ever dissatisfied.
Portion sizes are reasonable for a restaurant in Japan, but may strike some visitors as small.
There a number of good drink options, from smoothies, to juices, to bar options, and it is clear that this is what they would like you to choose from. Their coffees are by Single O coffee, from Australia, and it is perfectly fine. Not great mind you, and if you are looking for good coffee there are much better options in Kannai, but fine. If you are a coffee snob in Japan the cuppajoe here is a pass. The only black coffee they can offer is an aeropress as well, so keep that in mind. There are also tea options and, of course, water.
Once again, pricey, but delicious food in a...
Read moreThis Bills is in such a great location, and it’s even better if you can get a table outside. I’ve come here a couple of times and the service has been EXCEPTIONALLY good, super friendly and surprisingly attentive, almost like they can read your needs before you even ask.
Foodwise, the portions are satisfying and the taste has been consistently great. My favorite so far has been the burger; a little smaller than I’d prefer, but the flavor was absolutely amazing. I also like that the plates aren’t overly large, and this leaves room for dessert. The ricotta pancakes were soooo good! with the honeycomb butter really took them to the next level.
While yes, it can be a bit on the pricey side(drinks, main plate and dessert for 2 people around ¥10,000), but considering the location, service, and quality, I personally think it’s worth it. They have vegetarian and vegan options as well which is a good point to consider!
Bills has definitely become one of my personal favorites and will always be an option...
Read moreA bit pricey. You will probably end up paying about $25/person given that you order an entree and a drink, but you won't be disappointed.
It's a great dating spot because you will be left talking for a long time and the interior/service is nice. It's just very slow. Not recommended if you are starving.
There's almost always a line here. Even on non-peak hours, you'll wait a good 10-30mins.
If I'm a visitor to Japan, I'd much prefer a great washoku meal that is served fast and it'll only eat cost $10. For some reason, in Japan, people see Western food as high end and it's priced as so. And to be fair, in the US, Japanese food is expensive.
Sorry for going off topic here. It's a great place for a date. Take a walk around minato mirai afterwards.
What to order? One of you should order the pancake and it's one of those places that does nice latte art for you to take photos in many...
