Myself, my wife and niece stayed 3 nights here. The first night did not go well. The problem started when our taxi dropped us off at the intersection of King Kitsalat Rd and Sisavangvong Rd. The reason was we had arrived after the night market had started which closes Sisavangvong Rd. The driver pointed in the general direction to go, but wasn't very specific. After asking several vendors and restaurant staff for directions to the hotel, one walked us to one alley short of where the hotel was. Next a hostel staff pointed us to the right alley. Our phones weren't working, so we couldn't call or use GPS to help. If this happens to you, walk NE on Sisavangvong, go past the large Indigo Hotel / Restaurant on your left. When you get to the white fences of Wat May Souvannapoumaram turn left down the alley and about 3/4 of the way you should spot the hotel sign on your right. From there on the stay was fine. Tom, the manager, goes out of his way to help you and provides a map with highlights of Luang Prabang noted on it. The room was large, there were 2 queen size beds which worked fine for the 3 of us. There was a small fridge and a safe for valuables. The bathroom has hot water in both the shower and the sink. The shower drain was extremely slow and more than once we were afraid the water would make it to the rest of the bathroom. Our windows had no screens, but had old fashioned shutters. On two mornings we were awakened at 4 AM when the temple next door did a 15 minute drum beating. Bicycles are available for free. There is no restaurant, however breakfast is served in the morning at tables on the front lawn. Be advised, in the winter the morning temperatures can dip to 40 degrees F, which makes for a very chilly breakfast. It would help if the hotel had patio propane heaters to chase some of the cold away. Overall the hotel is quite pretty and landscaped well, despite the poor start and a few drawbacks we did...
Read moreIn late November 2023 I made a reservation for a two night stay for February 2024 at a very good rate through agoda.com, which was confirmed instantly. Two weeks prior to my arrival the hotel informed me that they are overbooked and asked me to cancel my reservation. |Interestingly enough various booking websites confirmed that at least for one of the two nights there was still availabilty. ||I asked them to arrange alternative accommodation, which was declined. I was told that they couldn't do anything else but apologize and repeated their request that I cancel my reservation.||Instead I asked them to inform agoda.com about the overbooking and cancel my reservation from their side. Nothing happened for a few days, so I contacted the hotel again about the status of my reservation. Of course they still didn't have a room and claimed that the couldn't reach agoda.com. ||Long story short: I asked agoda.com to get in touch with the hotel and inquire. The hotel cancelled the reservation and I had to pay roughly double the price for a comparable hotel in the same area, since prices had changed significantly to when I made the first reservation.||Mistakes happen and overbookings are not uncommon. It's just a question of how you handle it. This was ceratainly not the best...
Read moreWe stayed around 7 nights in the Luang Prabang Residence hotel. The good point about the hotel is clearly the location: though being in the full centre in Luang Prabang, close to everything, it's calm and peaceful. Room was very spacious and quite clean.
However, improvements have to be made: breakfast was ok, but nothing special, service is ok, but basically the hotel runs with 2 people who do everything (with a lot of good willing and smile), in cooperation with the Gollden Peacock hotel (on the other side of the road, same owner I guess). Bathroom could be updated.
On the last days we had a plane late, so we asked if it was possible to have just a shower, ans we were sent in a small basic - and quite dirty - place outside the building; when mentioned it was not ok, there was some misuntderstanding, mentioning that it was free (so it was already nice to have this possibility).
The point is the hotel is quite expensive in Luang Prabang's standards, but the service is not at the level you can expect for this price - so improvements have to be made.
So good place, excellent location, but has to improve the service to make it a excellent quality/...
