Beautiful place but I find it very inhumane that all over the place people are selling wild birds stuffed in tiny cages in the hot sun. They only cost 60000kip and I imagine people buy them out of compassion for the poor animals, without realising they are actually promoting this business. So if you find this cruel please don't buy. We went there about an hour before sunset and it was already getting crowded with organised tours. We decided to leave asap. On the way down it seemed like there were hundreds of people crawling to the top. I can't imagine how crazy it...

In and of itself really quite nice. What I find really awful, however, are the mini small baskets on strings (size of a christmas ball) in which two birds sit and which are sold on the way to the stupa. Stuffed in, without water or food in the heat. Buddhism preaches compassion for EVERY living thing and here animals are highly officially tortured. The birds are afraid for their lives and supposed Buddhists buy them as if they were some disposable...

A best spot for breathtaking view over the city of Luang Prabang ! Ticket price is 20,000 kip per person. Rising 150 metres above the centre of town, Mount Phousi cuts a distinctive figure on the Luang Prabang skyline. There are hundreds of steps to negotiate, but the climb is gentle enough for anyone who is in reasonable health. exploring Mount Phousi is a must-do for any traveller in Laos and I highly recommend...
