Huge tip: start from the wat on the north side of the ‘mountain’, opposite Cafe Toui, this is the easier gradual climb up with many things to see along the way: small wat with monks working; naga steps to a large Buddha in a half cave; an area with several statues of Tuesday Buddha, Saturday Buddha, reclining Buddha, standing Buddha, etc.; vistas of the town and Mekong River, steps guarded by Thai type gatekeepers; another way building, and finally the stupa.
