This hotel has 12 rooms in a large land size, conveniently located at lower level of Mount Phousi, takes less than 3-min walk down to night market from the back door of this hotel. It doesn't give a feel or warm-welcoming ambience as its management doesn't know how to manage it in a style. Hotel staff did not talk to us as they could not speak English. The hotel is invested & run by Mainland Chinese investors, who built this hotel mainly for their VIP guests & government officials. They don't care if they make profit or not, & don't do much promotion, & therefore not many foreign tourists from EU or North America aware of this hotel. My husband & I felt like we were the only guests during our 6-night stay in the high-season period (before Xmas), and were served by 8 staffs. It's safe staying in this hotel as, in the middle of night, we saw a staff stationing in the security station at front entrance & also saw a staff stationing in the lobby at all time. The hotel is close to the monks' Alms Procession area, it occurs daily at 5:30/6:00AM in the old town. We were upgraded to Junior Suite, the largest room on the ground floor. The room (#1005) is beautifully decorated, it has air-con with heating function in the room, the bed is so comfortable as it uses very high quality linen and mattress. The bathroom is large with hot water running all the time. All rooms on upstairs are larger. Due to not many guests, breakfast is a-la-carte style that noodle and Amercian breakfast with fresh juice/coffee/tea are served. Same breakfast/food everyday, though. Despite the quiet ambience, to me, it's still worth staying here as for its price we paid for with excellent quality room & bathroom, you won't find other hotel with such hardware qualities at the price we paid for; although, software is not good. AsiaTravel offered better price than Agoda/Booking.com at the time I booked this hotel. Prior to Jingland, we stayed at Le Sen Boutique hotel for 1 night. My husband its warm-welcoming ambience, but I did not like it as it did not have hot water for shower during our stay while temp was 10 degree celcius outside. Plus we were not warned about their water equipment was broken after checked-in. It's a bit far from the old town, about 20 min walk. Free shuttle is offered upon request. Bathroom is small & has no separator between shower & sink area. Toilet seat isn't clean. Anyway great buffet-style breakfast is served with good quality baguettes, salami,...
Read moreWe loved this hotel for many reasons. The location was ideal- in the central part of Luang Prabang only 1 block from the night market and an easy walk to the museum, the steps to the top of Mt Phousi, the restaurants and bars along the river, and many of the Wats that you will want to see while visiting. The hotel resembled a converted mansion with high ceilings and beautiful entrance ways, etc. Our room was large and clean with a super comfortable king sized bed, a shower and tub, air conditioning, a safe and a mini fridge. Plenty of large towels, robes, and slippers, as well as plenty of bottled water was provided. The room was quiet, too. The small hill in town at the southern base of Mt Phousi that the hotel is located on is easy to walk up from the main street. (I have seen complaints about the small hill in some reviews of this hotel for some reason...) It is about 200 meters up the gently sloping road to the hotel entrance from the main street. The hillside location gives you great views of the surrounding city and mountains and you will be above all of the street noise. The staff was super nice and spoke English very well, and our room price included free airport transfers. (the hotel is about a 15 or 20 minute ride from the airport) Breakfasts were served some mornings by order, and on some mornings there was a breakfast buffet. There were always Western and more local food choices available, and we ate well every day! The Lao coffee was delicious, too! The hotel, in spite of being spotlessly clean on the inside, could use a little maintenance in spots (like the pool area and some of the landscaped areas around the hotel) and that is one reason why I gave it only a 4 star review. The other reasons for fours stars would be that the hotel has no bar or spa (there are plenty of those close by....), and no room service. We thought it was an excellent value, though, and we would definitely stay here again and recommend it...
Read moreGreat location at mid-point to the Phou Si Hill, affording a scenic view of the villages below the hill and beyond. The night market is just at the foot of the hill and the Royal Palace Museum, tourist street and numerous notable temples are nearby. It is also a short walk to the pier to catch a boat ride to the Park Ou Cave. The proximity to the village homes, however, posed a problem with the fiercely territorial barking guard dogs. One actually chased me from its home and continued to track me for a distance... I had to throw a stone to scare it away. A harrowing experience for those who are fearful of dogs!||The room is spacious and beautifully decorated but maintenance can be improved eg. the shower stall drainage did not improve after feedback given to the staff and our room door did not close properly (there is a 0.5cm gap between the door and the door jamb). The breakfast selection could also be more varied – there was only American breakfast and noodle soup.||It does not have a feel of being a hotel as we hardly see any other guests (although the staff told us that 11 out of the 15 rooms were occupied). We felt like we were house guests in a rich man’s mansion instead (with his framed photographs placed on a few side tables in the entrance foyer). ||Of the 3 nights we stayed there, we were awoken early in the morning on 2 days by traditional prayers and music coming from public address system in the nearby village. Fortunately, this is only for those 2 days which commemorated a special festival...
