I had an uncomfortable experience, but this might not be typical
There weren't any other customers when I was there, just the family (presumably) that runs this place
As soon as I chose a table, a lady came over and grabbed a serviette got down on the ground straight away to level the table properly... which too a while. I would have preferred to have a wobbly table (that could have been fixed any time, not necessarily at the exact minute I sat down) over having someone doing stuff down at my feet...
There was a young kid with her - he seemed to be incredibly restless and kept kind of squawking and wanting her attention...I don't think he had any moments of stillness while I was there... definitely not chill
Anyhow, onto the food. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with fries - it looks just like a banh mi. Unfortunately the baguette was soft and affected by the humidity. Given there are so many wet ingredients (lots of cucumber sticks without any skin, rinsed lettuce and tomato) I found the overall texture off-putting and couldn't really make myself eat much of it.
Also, during the whole time there was a guy who seemed pretty intense, talking super loudly on his phone and watching videos with the volume up, and others in the family making loud calls. It was a lot like being in the family's living room instead of a restaurant.

The Rainforest Bistro & Bar is the answer.
The cool laid back ambiance hides the fact that this place is run by professionals!
Good, the manager, and his team provide discrete yet attentive, friendly service.
I have been a few times midday and evenings. You are always assured of a friendly welcome.
On the terrace, you can chill out while you watch the world go by. Inside, you can chill out while you listen to a great selection of music (which does not drown out conversation).
MOST IMPORTANTLY: The food is great. There is a wide selection and today I chose the fried river weeds (ki pen), chicken with holy basil (krapow gai) and mango sticky rice. To accompany it, a BeerLao.
This was one of many excellent meals I have had in Laos; here it is in the best atmosphere.
For me, any future visit will include at the very least one visit to the Rainforest...
Read moreCame in with a group of 9 and this restaurant served us quickly. Menu is simple and includes Lao and Western food that we were all happy with. Prices are also very reasonable. Owner was the best part; this is a new restaurant he just opened last month. He speaks English fluently, gave us amazing service and even helped us organize a van to the waterfall. Definitely check this place out if you're in...
