We stayed for a couple of nights and things were satisfactory. Room was fine and it was quiet. The included breakfast is small and while the ‘filtered coffee’ was really instant coffee, it was a trivial matter. So, instead of going on to Vang Vieng we decided to soak in the atmosphere for a few more nights at Luang Prabang and we were happy to extend our stay at Thatsaphone Guest House for another two nights. ||That evening our toilet was blocked so we requested assistance from the young man on duty. Couldn’t find a plunger and he didn’t know what to do. Later, after it became clear the toilet wouldn’t unblock itself he called his manager - found the plunger which we used to clear the blockage. What came next was a real surprise - we were informed we could no longer stay and we would need to relocate the next morning. Because we blocked the toilet. I couldn’t believe it. We were calm and courteous the entire time and sought assistance so we could resolve the blocked toilet. Furthermore, we’re quiet and considerate guests. So it came as quite the surprise to be asked to leave. We were embarrassed and felt humiliated over the incident and left a very nasty taste in our mouths. (Excuse the mixed metaphor!)||So, if this can happen to us - it could happen to anyone. For your own peace of mind I recommend you find accommodation elsewhere - even if it’s a little more than you were...
Read moreWe absolutely enjoyed this amazing stay:||- Hotel premises and room was spotlessly clean (room was cleaned every day). Room was spacious with all necessary facilities such as a refrigerator.., air conditioner. Also the whole hotel was well maintained, we especially liked the wooden parts...||- Location of the hotel is simply the best! Hotel is right in the middle of everything, but hidden in the small alley so it is very quiet during nights. On the other hand, it takes 100m walk in order to be in the centre of everything (nightmarket 200m, closest Wat directly at the alley 100m, best restaurants / cafes around 200m, museum around 300m, Mount Phousy entrance 300m...||- Hotel is family owned and Lisa (very nice n helpful young lady) - our host was excellent. There were leaflets in the room providing us detailed info of places worth visiting. In addition, Lisa has proactively showed us everything, was almost permanently onsite helpful if we needed anything - for example a motorbike - she rented it for us so we did not need to arrange it by ourselves. During the night, she parked it inside the hotel. ||- The biggest bonus for us was that she was keen to take us with her to to jointly give alms to the monks. She prepared the rice for us and provided us every info needed in order to experience this event properly. ||||Once again, we had an amazing stay! Thank...
Read moreOur stay here started off with a worse than great start as we were put in a twin room when I booked a double. It advertised a safe in every room and a refrigerator however after asking it turns out the fridge was outside and the safe was in reception which obviously the staff had access to. ||We ordered our breakfasts and they were nice although the bacon was so tiny it was barely there, and then on the final morning it was missed completely. ||The stay itself was comfortable, the beds were clean and comfy although there was a strong damp smell so we always left the windows open when we went out. The bathroom also had a horrible smell after showering although the hot water was amazing!! ||We booked the minivan to Vang Vieng through the reception as they told us it would take 4-5 hours. It took 7.5! If we had’ve known that we would’ve booked an earlier one. ||Also, beware of the laundry service, we gave the lady at reception a bag of washing at around 9.30 am, however she was so busy playing games on the computer that it was still there at 1.30pm. When we later picked it up we were charged for the half day express service and everything was still damp! I would take it elsewhere next time! ||Overall, it was a comfy stay, breakfast was nice and they have an adorable kitten, but was it worth the money? No,...
