We pre-booked alternative accommodation in LP only to arrive and found we'd booked the seventh circle of hell! We walked around town that night to find somewhere else to go and thankfully found Phousi Guesthouse! The manager agreed to a terrific rate with breakfast and arranged for the room to be ready first thing the next morning. The room was a great size with a double bed, hanging space in a small wardrobe, small fridge, A/C, tv, and large bathroom.||Firstly, the bed wasn't the best we'd had but we slept well enough, however everything else was terrific. The bathroom is SO clean and tidy with lovely tiles. The room is decorated nicely with polished timber everywhere. We had breakfast each morning which was great value. It's a very basic choice - egg fried, scrambled or omelette with a baguette, a pancake, or an Asian breakfast. They do THE best noodle soup. We enjoyed the whole stay so much that we extended a week!||The location was spot on - on the peninsula, at the base of Phousi Mountain almost, 100m from the night market and main street, 100m from the Mekong, and nice and quiet.||They do laundry for 10,000LAK/kg and can arrange transport and tours. ||A special shout out to Seng - the young gent at the front who is seemingly always working. His English is terrific and service beyond what we've seen yet in SE Asia. These guys were terrific and if back in LP, we wouldn't hesitate to stay again.||Recommendation:|▪️mattress toppers to soften the beds|▪️hooks on the wall or behind doors to hang towels (the only towel rail was INSIDE the shower)|▪️fix the shower head hook to the wall properly for room #212 as the shower head is aimed at the wall a little too much rather than point down||(I forgot to photograph the bathroom to show you but take my word for it...
Read moreLike everything else in LP, there exist some much competition. First, the booking sites such as Agoda take 10% of the total stay. IMO that is HUGE. I stayed 7 nights and I personally liked the atmosphere. ||1. The breakfast included jok (rice porridge) or a pho. I absolutely love jok or congee as the Hong Kongers call it.||2. Even though it was the hot season, I preferred to open the windows to an alley which contained used building stuff and turn on a wall mounted wall mounted fan. Yes, the room had a modern aircon unit.||3. The guest house also has a restaurant which served a bbq hot pot.||4. I used the water kettle provided in my room to make my hot tea and to boil my drinking water; I will not buy bottled water ever.||5. Unfortunately, I had to stand next to the door to get a wifi signal but such is life.||6. The guest house asks that you hang a notice outside your door if you wanted your room cleaned. I didn't want them to bother.||7. The hot water was very HOT.||8. I accepted that some of the bathroom fixtures were in need of repair (leaking) and realise many of YOU would probably look down your noses at these instances.||9. I got the feeling that the main staff was prepared to go to extra mile for my pleasure and I understand that this is what many of you are looking for on...
Read moreI had spent one night at the Phousi 1 Guesthouse a year ago while on a work trip. This time I was on vacation and stayed for six nights. ||||My first positive impressions of this guesthouse were confirmed, as I really enjoyed my stay. Sang, Lee, and Thong were all extremely helpful in helping me find my way around Luang Prabang. ||||Besides helpful staff, the Phousi 1 Guesthouse is a beautiful, cozy, comfortable place. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. Some of them are also very beautiful with teak and mahogany paneling and floors. ||||The guesthouse is also in a great location, situated on a very quiet street halfway between the Mekong and the night market. It's an easy walk to many other locations in Luang Prabang. ||||I cannot say enough good things about this place. I love Luang Prabang and especially the Phouse 1. If I ever travel here again I will definitely want...
