Very warm welcome at check-in by a very friendly lady but the two guys at check-out were about as personable as a wet fish and very aloof. This is something I have noticed with other staff here, so it's 4* stars from me at best as good service with a friendly approach makes all the difference and it was distinctly lacking here.
The hotel has stylish contemporary decor and extremely large rooms plus it is well located with just a short walk from the Old Town. The property consists of just 38 suites, so it never feels crowded and it can often feel as if you're the only people in residence, which might actually be the case given the grumpy staff.
The breakfast was very good and whilst it's not the most extensive spread, it offers a very high quality including a selection of smoked fish and meats, a fantastic ceaser salad with king prawns, Greek salad, small dishes with smoked salmon, quails egg and horseradish cream through to Panna cotta and creme brulee. The usual hot selection was available plus a very nice a'la carte menu was also offered and included in the price, which also runs to a glass (or three) of Ruggeri Prosecco, which was a very pleasant way to start your day in Riga.
The only downside of this hotel, apart from some of the staff, is the bathroom as it's much smaller in comparison to rest of the bedroom and a shower over the bath is very 2* in my opinion. Showering is especially awkward given the location of the shower head, which means the bath screen does little to prevent the bathroom flooding.
I am also just over 6'3" and had to crouch somewhat whilst showering and maintaining my balance as the shower is located towards the end of the bath where it slopes. Guests would be much better served by a large walk in shower with maybe a separate bath and shower in the larger suites.
The kitchenette in the suites seems like a totally unnecessary facility when it steals so much room from the bathroom. Guests have the benefit of a fantastic room service menu, excellent breakfast in the morning and one of the best restaurants in Riga at your disposal for lunch and dinner, so I don't understand the whole concept of the kitchenette with microwave in such stylish hotel rooms, especially when it's quite obviously at the expense of the bathroom.
Turn down was offered each night by calling the room but when it was accepted it wasn't actually...
Read moreWe booked this hotel a year in advance for a wedding, knowing it would be our first trip with a newborn. We chose and paid for a specific, spacious room with kitchen facilities, a microwave, and a lounge, as these were essential for travelling with a 2-month-old. Months before the trip, the hotel confirmed a cot, parking space, and facilities.
Two days before our arrival, we were told the room was “no longer available” due to an error. The only alternative offered was a much smaller room with none of the promised facilities — no microwave for sterilising bottles, very limited kitchen space, and an awkward step that made using a pram difficult. With flights booked and the wedding the next day, we had no choice but to accept.
Communication and service were poor. The manager who informed us of the issue did not follow up, staff were unhelpful, and the breakfast they offered as compensation was withdrawn partway through the stay. We also had to spend extra money locally to replace basic facilities we had booked in advance.
This was meant to be a special trip, but it ended up being stressful, costly, and far below expectations. The handling of the situation fell well short of what any guest...
Read moreNice hotel with elegant interior. Rooms are large and luxurious with a sofa and a kitchenette. Bathrooms have separate shower and bath. They vary in size some do not have a bidet. WiFi is a bit complicated but works well. Breakfast buffet is Scandinavian style and above average quality but not as good as the quality of the rooms. Staff were friendly and service was good. The hotel does not have its own parking facilities, evening and Sunday parking is free on the street and there is a public parking lot nearby. There is a small Sixt/Nextbike Station...
