Zero star if possible. This place should be black listed. The older man is basically trying to rip everybody off. If you don't know your durian and pricing like an expert, don't even try. You will surely get conned. He will tell you all the "great" durians they have and quote very expensive price for the so-called good ones. When the fruits were served, they are worst than ordinary, and he charged you top grade price. We are not experts in durians, but we know the prices and what is a good durian. If you are not sure, you can always check with a few of the stalls along the same stretch of road and do your own comparison. After confronting and challenging him, he gave a discount. Would you not consider this discount as a shut-mouth fee? For the benefit of everybody who google and read this, don't even get near this stall. I will strongly recommend a store near this place, run by a young friendly and honest person. The durians were good and price was reasonable. He even guarantee he don't sell bad durians. I had a second round here immediately after Ah Teik, and the difference is unimaginable. Quality, price and service! If this Ah Teik tries to respond to my review, which I think he will, judging from the responses he made when he got bad reviews, don't even believe him. I'm not trying to be personal but this place is really really bad. You can check out how many bad reviews this place already has. Lack of good durians should not be a legitimate reason to sell ordinary or worst fruits at prices for high grade fruits. While others under the same condition can sell at relatively reasonable prices. After posting this bad review, the owner will surely try to respond and give excuses as to what happened and why his prices are super high. The question is then why was he selling B or even C grade fruits at A grade price? It is then up to everyone reading this to decide for themselves who to believe: Someone who constantly gets bad reviews and tried to argue his way out, or a group of overseas visitors who got ripped off and gave an honest and true feedback/review. As mentioned, we immediately went another stall along the same road and got good quality fruits, good reasonable price and...
Read moreBad durian. The uncle suggested 2 kinds of Mao Shan Wang (MSW), RM 75/kg and RM 55/kg. Decided to opt for the more expensive one because why not. It was 2 kg and he gave me discount of to RM 140, so far so good. We ordered the bitter one and the uncle promised us we could return if it was not nice.
It was definitely not MSW as the seeds were thick and not as fragrant as typical MSW. We had 3 pieces on the spot. Sure it was bitter, but definitely not MSW. When we complained, the store keepers (incl. the uncle) said it was "normal" for MSW yo have thick seeds and didn't allow us to return. Mind you, for 2 kg of MSW Durian, there were only 6 seeds.
Eventually, we were fed up and requested for take away the rest of the Durian. He did it for us, then we paid and left the store.
As soon as we got into our hotel, curiously we had another bite when we noticed he swapped our Durian with sweet ones. The rest 3 seeds were all sweet. Worse, there was a rubber band inside the box together with the Durian.
Either we were too sensitive, or this store is pure ripped off with bad hygiene. Totally don't give a f to customers. So much of one of the "popular" stores in Penang.
Reviewer's reply to the owner's reply:
You're more than welcome to show me your cctv footage. Show the world that you've been lying to your customers. We only ate 3 seeds there, and you gave us 3 seeds for the take away. Btw how about the hygiene again? Oh yea, the swapped durians.
Are gigantic seeds called flat nowadays we wonder. Photos are ready to serve you too.
Please stop throwing the blame to your customers when it is indeed your fault. To your account, it seems all bad reviews are fake reviews. Try to accept your unethical practice to rip off...
Read moreI had a terrible experience and felt completely cheated when trying out durian. When I approached the durian stall, I told the seller I preferred a bitter taste and dry flesh. I asked for his recommendations, and he suggested the Capri variety, saying it was bitter with white flesh, though not very dry. He mentioned that dry flesh wouldn’t be as bitter. Trusting his advice, I ordered one durian.
When I asked for the price, since there was no price list, he told me it was RM79 per kg. I asked why there was no price list, and he explained that he sold limited quantities of Capri, so he didn’t display the price. I ordered one piece, and he selected one for me. The total came to RM102.
After finishing it, I felt the taste was not what I expected. I went to another durian stall and found they were selling the same Capri durian for only RM40 per kg. I felt completely cheated, even as a local. This was a truly disappointing experience.
Penang Ah Teik Durian 槟城阿德榴莲This is not an excuse. Your explanation is unacceptable. The entire conversation with the seller was conducted in the local Hokkien dialect. I didn’t even bargain when he quoted RM79 per kg for the Capri durian. We trusted him without questioning. The price turned out to be double the market rate. We can only blame ourselves for not being more vigilant and for not comparing prices. This was my mistake. Your business practices lack sincerity. I hope other customers don’t make the same...
