Newday Porridge Restaurant is our favourite porridge restaurant in Penang for dinner.
Location: At Lorong (Lane) Selamat, in the heart of Georgetown, at the intersections with Jalan (Road) Macalister on one side and Jalan Burma on the other.
Parking: Paid street parking lots nearby (8am - 6pm daily except Sundays and Public Holidays). Need to download Penang Parking App. Parking can sometimes be difficult but you can park a distance away and walk to the restaurant.
Ambience: Operating in a terraced house with both alfresco and air-cond sections within a busy but relaxed atmosphere.
Menu: Quite a variety of pre-cooked or fresh ala carte orders comprising fish, chicken, vegetables, etc.
Food Quality: Delicious but dependent on personal preference..

Read moreI have not been here for ages but decided to come for dinner since I had some cravings for teochew porridge. The highlights here are the dishes and I ordered the stir fried pork belly with chillies, pork in black sauce, fried black pomfret in soy sauce, clams, mui choi and eggs. In my opinion, the best ones were the fried pomfret and stir fried pork belly. The pomfret was fried to a crisp without overcooking the meat and the pork belly was delightfully savoury. All the dishes here were prepared with stronger taste which are typical of teochew cooking but they went well with the plain watery porridge as it balanced out the differences in intensities. Do be aware that the stronger flavor profile may be too salty for some people. The prices were higher than average but I suppose the good taste made up for that. I'd recommend this place for those looking for a good teochew...
Read morethe ordering process is such a wasting time process. instead of giving people in queue a menu to decide what they want, customer is made to order on the spot when they reach the cashier. each customer take average 4-5 min, deciding what they want and asking question while other queing are waiting tirelessly. i am 10th in queue and i was waiting in the line for nearly 40 min for my turn, standing. the food is normal, not much special. worst thing, they arranged a table for me, but it was occupied, and they need to reassign another table to me. totally screw up. Please dont believe all the hype written by others. not recommend for anyone who want to enjoy porridge and meal as the environment is a messed. Parking is also very limited, we are forced to park next street which take us 10 min walking distance to the restaurant. truly bad experience, totally...
