Shobana’s Kitchen in Georgetown is a good restaurant for those who appreciate authentic South Indian flavors with a touch of refinement. From the moment you step inside, the inviting aroma of freshly ground spices and simmering curries sets the stage for a truly indulgent dining experience. The restaurant exudes a warm yet upscale charm, with elegant wooden furnishings, soft lighting, and a welcoming atmosphere. The space is thoughtfully designed to balance tradition with modern comfort, making it an excellent choice for both casual lunches and special occasions. The service is impeccable attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to guide diners through the menu’s highlights. Shobana’s Kitchen offers a masterfully curated menu that pays homage to classic South Indian cuisine while elevating it with high-quality ingredients and meticulous preparation. Start with their Ghee Roast Dosa, a crisp and golden delight served with a trio of chutneys and a rich, aromatic sambar. The Mutton Sukka, slow-cooked in a medley of spices, is tender and bursting with deep, earthy flavors. The Banana Leaf Rice Set is a must-try, featuring fragrant steamed rice accompanied by a selection of vibrant vegetable curries, crispy papadam, and a variety of pickles. Pair it with their Kari Kulambu—a deeply spiced mutton curry that is rich, hearty, and packed with bold flavors. Seafood lovers will appreciate the Fish Masala, where fresh tenggiri fish is cooked to perfection in a thick, flavorful gravy. One of the standout items is their Coconut Fried Chicken, a unique take on a South Indian classic. Marinated in freshly grated coconut and spices before being fried to crisp perfection, this dish is an explosion of flavor. Another highlight is the Prawn Varuval, a fiery, spice-laden stir-fry that pairs wonderfully with their soft, buttery naan. End your meal with a decadent serving of Gulab Jamun, soft milk dumplings soaked in fragrant rose syrup, or their Payasam, a creamy rice pudding infused with saffron and cardamom. Pair your meal with their signature Masala Chai, brewed with an aromatic blend of Indian spices, or a refreshing Madras Filter Coffee, served in the traditional steel tumbler and dabarah. While the pricing at Shobana’s Kitchen leans toward the higher end, the quality, presentation, and authenticity justify the cost. Every dish is crafted with care, using fresh ingredients and traditional cooking techniques that showcase the rich heritage of South Indian cuisine. Whether you're a seasoned lover of Indian food or a curious first-timer, this is a place that guarantees an unforgettable dining experience.

Nice place to have Banana leaf lunch. Banana leaf set comes with vegetarian option with 3 types of vege, rice( Basmathi/Parboiled), rasam, papad, injipuli and curry of your choice. Decent portion. Injipuli just tasted weird. Could improve the taste. We ordered boiled eggs, fried fish and Kerala Chicken as side dishes. Fried fish was hard as I believed they fried it straight from freezer. Correct me if I’m wrong. Chicken was tasty. They need to be more attentive in service as we waited quite long to get the menu book. Other than that, the ambiance is good. Overall must try restaurant. Repeat visit Banana leaf set was good. The drinks and kulfis also good. Only disappointed with the fried fish which was hard. Maybe fried straightaway out from freezer.

We had lunch for 3 pax. Banana leaves sets, squid pepper fry & coconut chicken. Only the coconut chicken was very delicious as it was tender and juicy. The rest was very bland taste and the curries was also less tasty. The cooks I saw was foreigner and not sure that affected the taste. The environment was subtle and it was very comfortable plus very clean. If they could increase the quality of food that would be great. The servers was attentive but they looked serious and not friendly. Awkward to ask more questions about the food. They look like they just want to finish their job. I hope my comment is not taken negatively but steps to improved it because there is so much potential if the food improved in taste. Overall, it was okay.

We walked into Shobanas kitchen to have lunch today at 8th March 2023 at around 3pm. Agreed it was full house so we waited for them to bring the menu about 10-15 minutes then we had to wait for a long time before they could take our order. After a long wait i have decided to call them and i called them by saying excuse me and then the lady who was wearing yellow colour tshirt with black face mask approach us and shouted to us and she was extremely rude to the max. All we wanted to do is just put in our order but we were not given the opportunity to talk as well as she was just showing her tention and raising her voice to us. She was extremely rude, no decency on how to treat customers, extremely bad customer service. If she is unable to handle crowd then she is not fit to run the place at all. She does not even have respect for her customers. Firstly she yelled over the counter to where we were sitting which i felt humiliated infront of everybody then she came up to us and yelled once again which truly shows that she has extremely bad customer service AND NO RESPECT FOR HER CUSTOMERS. On top of that, when we decide to leave she just walk up to the door and unlock the door to let us out. No apologies and said nothing. So which means she does not care if her customers walks out on her. I will never ever suggest anybody to go there as they are extremely rude to the core.I am definetely not going back there at all . She is very arrogant and extremely rude. Good food is not enough. Customers service is very important to sustained your business. Without customer service your business will...

I was really disappointed with this restaurant. We ordered several dishes, banana leaf, mutton briyani, fish moilee, chicken perattel, and a brinjal dish. Mutton briyani was spoiled! the smell and taste were absolutely off, first off i am not sure how this could come out of the kitchen. Next banana leaf- this was ok but the papadam had no crunch at all, honestly i was expecting simple things to have quality. Chicken perettal was like chicken curry, a dish that was pushed to sell. Super ordinary dish. Brinjal dish was nice, i enjoyed this dish. Fish moilee was ok, clearly used instant coconut milk. But acceptable. Yes, we addressed the mutton briyani issue and we all had the food items on our plates, we returned our plates and requested them to replenish the dishes. They obliged and apologised. The reason given by the superior was nonchalant and not responsible. My opinion the customer service could be better, you should take charge when something is wrong offer a new dish, and replenish without us asking. Perhaps offer desserts to compensate and show sincerity. I brought my friends speaking highly of Indian cuisine thus i am disappointed. Overall, i would never come again nor recommend. Penang food does not hold it’s name for food anymore. It’s the same with other...
