I'm reluctant to give this place only 2 stars because the food was good. However the service was terrible; I'm not sure if it was because I only spoke English, but the staff were rude and inattentive - my waiter left before I'd finished ordering then brought me the wrong food anyway, one waiter glanced at me then ignored me when I asked for the bill, another literally pushed me out of his way to leave the restaurant, and it seemed as though they couldn't wait for me to leave. Maybe I caught them all on a bad day. The place wasn't exceptionally busy and I appeared to be the only person getting this treatment, so I can't say for sure, but despite the good food I definitely won't go back. I left wishing I'd gone to one of the many other vegetarian restaurants along this street and generally in Little India. If you do decide to visit, I recommend the mushroom masala. However it was also a little more expensive by Penang standards and although the quality was good it didn't reflect...
Read moreWe were looking for an Indian restaurant that night and could not really find anything that appealed to us (in Little India above all places!), when we came across Sri Ananda Bahwan, which we reluctantly entered (it did not look that appaeling from the outside). Staff was friendly and gave us some recommendations, and all the food was absolutely tasty; definitely among the best Indian food I had had in quite some time. Even though the restaurant has the word "Vegetarian" in its name, they do serve chicken dishes there (I had the Tandoori Chicken). When we entered, the restaurant was mostly empty, but gradually filled up with mostly ethnic Indian customers, which was a sign for me that it did have a reputation...
Read moreSome nice food from the self service but ridiculously overpriced. The most expensive meal I’ve had in Malaysia which isn’t a proper ‘restaurant’.
We are tourists and upon sitting down I lost count of how many times the guy tried to sell us the ‘fresh coconut’ at RM10 to drink. Failing that he tired to sell us a lassi as if I had just teleported to Malaysia for the first time there and then.
There are set weekday meal sets in the many which states 4pm - 10pm or something similar. It was 7pm and apparently it ‘wasn’t available’.
Classic scam artists. Had the self service which came to a ridiculous amount. The naan bread was pretty much a small chapati sized flat thing which no flavour or butter.
Much better places around with NR Sweets being a memorable one.
Won’t...
