Mang Guang Kuih (炸芒光粿) = RM5.00 Teochew Rice Kuih (潮州饭桃粿) = RM3.50 Yam Kuih (芋头糕) = RM7.50 Gula Melaka Steam Cake (马来糕) = RM5.50 Service Charge = RM2.15
First saw this in a TikTok and thought I'd give it a try. Its a 2 Level Cafe wth a Focus on Teochew Styled Kuihs, although they have other foods available. It's Air-Conditioned, Free WIFI is available, and Beautifully Renovated. 2nd Level is only accessible via a Spiral Staircase. There are no Elevators available.
Ordering of Food is only through the scanning of a QR Code on a Display Board on your Table. You will be brought to a website where you can then order whatever you want. Once ordered, they will bring the dishes to you. At the end of the meal, you can go to their Cashier to pay by Cash or Card.
Most Importantly, I would like to give my compliments to their Staff for their Customer Service. So while waiting for my food, there was a very nice chap who went up to me and asked if I would like to go upstairs as they are doing some Repairs / Cleaning. He's worried that I might be affected by any Loud Sounds or Strange Smells that may affect my Dining Experience.
TBH I'm too lazy to climb Staircase to 2nd Level. But I am Impressed by his Gesture and appreciate his thoughtfulness. I told him I'm ok with staying where I am and thanked him.
The fact that he took the time to consider how I might be affected is very Commendable. Some other Eateries might not have bothered at all. Just for this act, it has already given me a good impression of this place. Excellent Customer Service!
Mang Guang Kuih (炸芒光粿) = RM5.00 I think this is their Signature Dish. I had initially thought that this would be Crispy to the Bite. Its not. Although Fried, it has a Soft Pillowy Skin and the Mang Guang filling is Juicy with a Slight Peppery Kick. The Chilli that came with it is Bitingly Spicy with a Slight Sourish Tang. Not bad, its worth a try.
Teochew Rice Kuih (潮州饭桃粿) = RM3.50 This is of course Png Kuih. The version here certainly does not taste like the Pink Colour Cheap Food Court version we have in Singapore. The Skin here looks Crystalline and Beautifully Soft. Filling has a Nice Savoury Taste.
It also has a very prominent ingredient that I can't quite remember but having it gives this Png Kuih a very 古早味 Classic Taste. This is Pretty Good. The Chilli given for this one is the same as the one given for their Mang Guang Kuih.
Yam Kuih (芋头糕) = RM7.50 This was the one that initially interested me to come eat here. It really is quite a Big Slab although unfortunately it is not the Super Soft Melt in Mouth type. Bitefeel is slightly firmer but still caves in to my bite easily. The Yam Taste is not Overly Strong and the Generous Amounts of Fried Shallots on Top accentuates and enhances the Taste of the Dish even further.
Gula Melaka Steam Cake (马来糕) = RM5.50 Its quite Adorable for them to shape this into a Heart Shape. While the Cake is nice and soft, I feel it isn't as Fluffy as Tim Ho Wan's version. Gula Melaka presence is prominent and it is Sweet but not Overly Sweet.
With a price of RM23.65 (S$7.00) for all the Food i've ordered, a Beautiful Air-Conditioned Environment with Free WIFI and Most Importantly, their Excellent Customer Service, this Cafe is definitely worth your time and money.

Read moreCame here in the morning when they are opened at 730am. Choose to sit upstairs by the window. Stuff was helpful in answering some of my questions. Ordered the following: Classic coffee: Taste is ok. Thick and on the bitter side which I like Orh nee: Not too sweet. Something is lacking but could not tell what it is. Overall is nice Deep fried mang Huang: This was nice!!! It surprises me actually. Would order more if not for the fact I was planning to eat other things later Deep fried Orh nee bun: This is nice, especially when it is pipping out. But find the price a little steep. Bought some some kuehs for takeaway. Found the layered kuehs (three flavors are disappointing. They are tasted the same and blend). Note: there is 50 cents takeaway fees for every takeaway Environment: . Very cool with 70s and 80s vibe . Do be very careful w the spiral staircase though it is really nice climbing it . Good that there are two kinds of stairs to go to second floor - spiral staircase and concrete one though the concrete one can still be a bit steep for senior citizens. Good thing is there are seats on the ground floor too . Like the fact they are opened slightly earlier than the shops around. So one can enjoy the serene morning. . There were mossies at my seat. Dunno what can be done but would be good to take note . Hope the kuehs could be combined so that more assortment can be purchased for tasting Would come back to try out the other food next time. Find the food here is less commerical that other restaurants around the same location Thanks for the...
Read moreDad said the Ku Cai Kueh tasted exactly like how grandma did it! Mum said Png kueh not much ingredients and the Orh Nee didn't have the shallot oil to enhance it. The matcha layered cake was flavourful, I expected more out of the pumpkin tapioca cake and the pea flower cake was ok. Everybody was impressed with their signature coffee. a little disappointing though is that mum wanted kopi c so i asked the waiter if the signature kopi comes in the kopi c version. He said he dunno. anyway we went ahead and indicated kopi c and luckily it came as kopi c. The kuang qiang was ok. Although both my parents are Teochews, this kuang qiang is not the kuang qiang that we are more familiar with but i ate similar kuang qiang at KSL glutton street before so this maybe a JB Teochew thingy. I thought the filling of the fried orh nee baos is a little underwhelming but one thing good is that it is not overly sweet. The steam yam cake was good! 2nd time eating this. Folks totally dig the plentiful spring onions and shallots dressing on top of the yam cake. Their chili was good too!
Overall would visit again to get more yam cake and the ku cai kueh for dad. Coffee is a must if i eat in. Overall spent about RM20+ per pax. Would have given 5 stars if the orh nee has the shallot oil, png kueh has more ingredients as these are signature Teochew food. And also the waiter lack of knowledge of their signature coffee was a little surprising. Kopi c is after all a very...
