Don House Japanese Restaurant 爆井屋 — Restaurant in Johor

I've been staying in this area for ages. Didn't even try out this restaurant every time I passed by. So yesterday, I decided to try out. All I can say is that the menu is QUITE extensive, featuring a good selection of Japanese dishes that are popular amongst Malaysian and some more exotic dishes like beef don, truffle udon, etc. Oyster super fresh, creamy, fat/plump, succulent, delicious, can't be denied. For the mains, we ordered the 5-type assorted sashimi, and they did not disappoint. The sashimi slices were thick, absolutely fresh and showcased a good variety of classic sashimi fish like tuna and salmon. This was definitely a highlight of the meal. As for the unagindon, "Very oishii!” Beautifully char-grilled unagi with the light crisp, matched with top-grade rice, and tantalising sauces. No fishy taste too. Surprisingly the truffle udon is flavorful and layered with truffle. Last but not least, we ordered yuzu as for our choice of drinks, first sipped it neat, but the taste was too concentrated but it was lovely. The taste was unmistakably yuzu. Overall, to me, this was as perfect of an experience as I could have asked for. Food was fantastic, the chef and the waitress were incredible hosts, and the ambience of the restaurant itself...

[TAMAN AUSTIN, JB] 🇲🇾🇯🇵 not gatekeeping JB’s best-kept secret that serves this STACKED Unatama Don! 🙂‍↕️ Menu at Don House Japanese Restaurant 爆井屋 is so diverse ranging from ramen to premium sashimi platters (they even have seasonal lobster sashimi?!🦞), honestly you’d be spoilt and choice & you can try something different every visit!

Unatama Don looks deceptively smol but this bowl’s actually very filling for one person! The chunky slab of unagi SLAPPED - really tender & succulent, well-grilled with a savory-sweet flavor. The tamago roll resting below was amazing too, pillowy enough with a hint of sweetness to balance off the saucy flavors and eat together with the warm & fluffy rice. R-EEL-lly worth for the flavours and price point (RM59)!

For a more affordable option, you can get their Tamago Una Don in their lunch menu (all items from RM10.90+)! Definitely not as much unagi portion, but I lowkey loved the blanket of onion fried egg on top with the kabayaki sauce drizzled atop!

Sashimi were all very fresh and tasty!

Oysters were perfect!

I've tried the freshest and sweetest lobster sashimi in Japan..and their lobster sashimi here is definitely fresh however the sweetness cannot be compared.

Truffle beef Don is decent too and their truffle sauce is not overpowering, however the rice is abit dry and the sauce was not enough to cover everything.

Strongly recommend you to push aside the meat and drizzle the sause directly on the rice if that's your style.

Miso soup tasted good and best of all, it is free flow. 👍
