I visited this restaurant on Father's Day, June 16th, at 7:30 pm, and the experience was extremely disappointing. We had made reservations and arrived on time, but our food, which was supposed to take 30 minutes, took an hour to be served. Worse, our food sat on the bar counter for at least 15 minutes before being brought to our table, and it was cold by then.
I saw staff members chatting at the counter, seemingly unaware of the delay. When I brought this up, the service staff blamed a shortage of staff, which was puzzling given that there were staff available to chat. Additionally, our order was incorrect, and we were not informed that some items were sold out until we specifically asked about them.
Astonishingly, the restaurant continued to take in new customers despite having more than four tables expressing dismay over the food delay. It seemed like the restaurant prioritized taking in new business over addressing the existing issues. When the food finally arrived, the server looked unhappy and didn't warn us that the bowl was hot. My sister scalded her hand and almost dropped the bowl, which could have resulted in a serious accident.
Adding insult to injury, they only offered 10% off for our next visit when we are not even planning to return. Upon checking the final bill after canceling most of the items, we noticed they still charged us a service charge, even though the service was at its lowest.
This experience ruined our Father's Day celebration. We left the restaurant feeling frustrated, disappointed, and unsatisfied. I hope the management takes necessary steps to address these issues, including improving staff efficiency, communication, and attention to detail.

Read moreReviewers who gave Shinyo a 5* rating in return for the free cheapo gyoza did Google community a big disservice! I tried out Shinyo for its 4.6 rating. (See photo)
My experience? The 2 young service staff couldn't answer simple query about the membership details..."I check with mgr first...."
Cold sake ordered came out as hot. Remedy action was to plunge the sake carafe into an ice pail instead of serving a new refrigerated one. Sake tasted flat.
The sushi combo we ordered came with a tuna piece tt looked like a piece of dull pink rag with edge almost falling off (see photo).
When told and shown, staff said "I go inform my mgr". Came back with "Feedback noted".
When I pressed the issue again, young mgr appeared. Offered to serve a free piece of fruit instead of take the item off bill.
Truth be told; portions were reasonable and general food quality average but not the high prayers sung by the 5* raters, imho.
My experience at various Shin Zushi outlets in KL was totally, totally different. Staff well trained and enthusiastic. Mgrs responsive to feedback and authorised to decide on spot remedial actions to feedback that ensured my return dining and personal recommendations to others.
Anyway, there were only 4 tables of diners in the 1.5 hrs or so we arrived and departed. It could be because it's a Mon evening.
But going by the quality of staff competence and policy (?) on responding to diners' feedback,I suspect Shinyo is not its last legs.
Regardless, it doesn't deserve the 4.6 rating. Btw, my M$300 bill entitled me to a "premium member" card. DM me and I'll be happy to give that to you if only you save u 10% off yr dining if you still insist on...
Read moreService was commendable esp the recovery. I think the staff who served us was new. He didn’t know about the membership scheme and didn’t provide us the order chit, and after looking through the 3 menu, using my phone to snap the photos, I was told we needed to use order chit.
And when the first dish was served, we had to request for chopsticks, plates and saucer. However, the experienced staff was very professional to perform service recovery by apologising profusely explain the lack of manpower and promptly refilled our green tea thereafter. They were also very observant to turn the portable air cooler towards our direction as we were feeling quite hot.
We have always patronise warakuya. In terms of service, ambience, variety and cleanliness, I must say ShinYo is better and the food is more fine. The sake sashimi is similar but when served it wasn’t as chilled compared to Warakuya. The white tuna was not as good in our view. Generally, price difference between these 2 are not significant. We like that ShinYo offers the beef and wasabi tuna option which is good for us for a change.
Spend above RM300 to get a lifetime Premium membership which also offers 10% for the meal. We’ll visit again for a different option. The cooked salmon in the bowl was too dry. Ramen Hitoyoshi next door has...
