From 2 stars to a confident and delicious 5 stars!
I'm happy to report that Les Bouchons has proven to be one of those rare occasions where the first impression has nothing to do with their actual character and quality.
After our first unfortunate visit to Les Bouchons, we were surprised and honored to be invited back to give them a second try. While most restaurants wouldn't necessarily take the time to respond to a review, Les Bouchons was confident enough in their product and quality, to not only give me a thorough response but ask us to give them another chance to show what they're really all about.
Banking on their confidence and the possibility that our first visit might just have been a combination of unfortunate events, we when for a second visit, and boy were we glad we did!
From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by the attentive and warm staff making us feel at ease. This time we decided to go for the Homemade Crab Cakes which we're satisfyingly crunchy on the outside and warm and flavorful on the inside. The garlic mayo was just the cherry on top, making for a delectable start to our evening.
Then it was time for the most important part - the beef tartare which had led us down the last time. When the plate hit the table and we dug in, we were in for a surprise in the form of an absolute melt-in-your-mouth flavourbomb! The tartare was smooth, packed with flavor and perfectly seasoned. We decided to pair it with their homemade truffle fries which were a crunchy and fluffy bite of perfection!
We ended the night on a sweet note by going for their creme brulee. There was nothing to fault about the dessert that truly showcased the best of French cuisine.
All in all, we had an absolutely lovely night , filled with exceptional flavors and great conversations with the general manager. We are beyond grateful to have been invited back and you have 100% won us over!
Not quite the date night we were hoping for.
As two French cuisine lovers, both I and my husband were very excited to give this restaurant a try. Sadly, our idea of a lovely dinner in French ambiance went unrealized as we decided to leave after sharing just 2 appetizers.
As we both love escargot and beef tartare, those were our first choices before graduating to main courses. The escargot was served without a shell, which I understand is now becoming more popular, but sadly that just meant the snails were swimming in a pool of herbed oil, which was unfortunately not the tastiest, leaving the snails more chewy than tender and delectable.
The beef tartare however was the true disappointment. Not only had it gone through the meat grinder (which again is sadly becoming a more common practice than the knife cut version) but the amount of mustard in the tartare over-powered every other flavour. It was far from a smooth and well-balanced tartare you'd expect and simply left a strong aftertaste of mustard in the mouth, killing all other flavours the tartare might have had.
The service was fine, though nothing to rave about, however the ambiance was far from enjoyable. We were seated next to two big groups of people who didn't seem to care about the fact that there were other guests at the restaurant as well. Me and my husband had to basically scream at each other to hear what the other person was saying as the entire time we were there we had to listen to screaming kids and adults alike. I realize the restaurant want to take those big reservations, however, in that case, it is their responsibility to ensure that everyone can have an enjoyable experience. Maybe sit couples away from such big crowds or make sure it's understood that this is a restaurant and not a market place.
The disappointing dishes coupled with anything but a relaxing and enjoyable ambiance had us leaving before we could even get to the mains.
Quite a sad experience considering we were truly excited to...
Read moreIt was my 2nd visit. However it led to a relatively huge disappointment due to bad experience overall and will never come back.
Context / background of the story : I was excited to bring my family for a birthday celebration because my first visit was good. I made reservation for 7 adults + 1 baby (8 pax). I purposely asked for a nice seating area because I wanted my family to have a good experience and a good time. Moreover we’re bringing a baby of 9 month old. We want a comfy seating arrangement. A day before the dinner, I called to request for baby chair.
My actual experience : Upon arrival, the staffs gave us 3 combine tables (that fit 6 pax) with 7 chairs to accommodate 8 pax wtf? Missing the baby chair and we need to squeeze the baby in between 3 chairs. I clearly called a day before to request for baby chair. And I gotta to ask TWICE before they can arrange the baby chair for me on the spot. We were placed right infront of the sliding door that connect to the outdoor area. Wtf? When I called for reservation I already clearly stated that we’re bringing a baby. Do you think is appropriate and safe to allocate us there when we have a baby? I requested to change seat as I know it wouldn’t be comfortable for us. Especially with people and waiters walking in and out to the outdoor area. Unfortunately - the restaurant is unable to accommodate this request of changing seat even though we have valid reason. Oh well.. people walking in and out. Waiter went out to the outdoor area without closing the door for several times. I have raised this to the waiters to close the door because baby is placed exactly right infront. The door is still open and told me not to worry?? I’m not worried about the door. I don’t wan to cause any discomfort to the baby, especially right after rain - there are more bugs.
If your restaurany is not baby friendly then just tell me frankly when I call for reservation. I will pick another place for my mom’s bday.
Terrible experience for us. My overall bill wasn’t cheap, it...
Read moreWe went to try out their lunch set menu which consist of either 2 courses or 3 courses at RM68 and RM88 respectively.
For starters we have tried the onion soup and the escargot. We love the onion soup and the flavour is on point, not too salty not too bland with the aroma and sweetness of onions. Cos we love onions. As for escargot, the texture feels like that of mushroom 😂, cooked with I dunno what herbs is inside but not too overpowering, it’s something to try if one haven’t have escargot before.
As for mains we have two Angus and one cut of the day , which is Wagyu top side for today. I would say the Angus which is 200gm is better than the cut of the day at 150gm in terms or tenderness and flavour. Maybe because of the size and thickness of the cut, the wagyu is slightly tough, more chewy. The steak has a smoky aroma, and was given four sauce to pair with. my favourite is the Dijon mustard of all. Overall for the steaks, it’s a good quality steak, but somehow lack of Wow factor for me.
Steak aside, it is the walnuts with salad that I enjoy. Somehow the walnuts just paired so good with the salads, provided that the walnuts taste fresh which they did!
We have one dessert which is the tart of the day, and it’s coffee chocolate ermmm mousse ? Or cream ? I cannot hear clearly what he said at last hahahah but it’s a great tart, we love coffee and the tart has a rather strong coffee aroma, unlike most other coffee related tarts which usually has very little aroma.
The ambiance is very relaxing, giving out the classy vibes, it’s very quiet in the afternoon. Thank you Jay for treating us well, showing us to the private room and cigar room and also constantly checking with us if everything is fine. The service here is top notch from every staff, keep it up !
They are having grand launch on October which I’m looking forward to. Overall it’s a great restaurant that I would recommend people...
