Mr Naan & Mrs Idly Review – Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur
Visited for Lunch & Dinner both (Buffet as well as Ala Carte)
Mr Naan & Mrs Idly in Brickfields is an absolute gem for vegetarian cuisine, offering authentic flavors that truly feel like a taste of home, a rare to find abroad.
Location: 4/5 – Conveniently situated on the main road in Brickfields, amidst many other Indian restaurants. It's easily accessible and hailing a cab from here is no trouble at all.
Ambience: 3.5/5 – The feel is that of a regular, functional restaurant – no major highs or lows in terms of décor or unique vibes. However, it earns full marks for its excellent hygiene, which is always a crucial aspect.
Food: 5/5 – Absolutely perfect! The buffet spread was outstanding, from the fresh salads to the delightful sweets. The vegetables tasted genuinely homemade, and the chapattis were just right. The halwa, being less sweet, was a welcome change, and the raita was finger-licking good. It felt light on both the stomach and the pocket, unlike heavy restaurant preparations. Even the South Indian dishes were incredibly tasty and authentic. A special mention for the Aloo Paratha – it was neck and neck with what you'd find in India. Getting food of this quality abroad is truly the icing on the cake!
Staff/Service: 5/5 – The staff were excellent – not only polite but also ready to guide about Kuala Lumpur, which is a fantastic bonus. Their helpfulness really added to the positive experience.
Value for Money: 5/5 – While one might find the prices a bit higher compared to India, it's genuinely difficult to find Indian food of this impeccable quality in Kuala Lumpur. It’s definitely worth every penny for the experience.
What could improve? – While the ambience is clean and functional, a touch more character or unique décor could elevate the dining experience further.
Overall Rating: 4.5/5
Finally, Mr Naan & Mrs Idly is a no-brainer for the best vegetarian cuisine in Kuala Lumpur. If you're craving authentic, home-style Indian food that's light and flavorful, this is the place to be. It delivers a truly satisfying meal that makes you feel right at home.

Read moreA wonderful place for Vegetarians. They have a menu Vegetarians would love to try out each and single dish . The dishes are a varied assortment of North and South Indian dishes. A non Garlic and non Onion options are available too The place can be slightly crowded and busy during lunch time where a Buffet style dining option is available with continuous flow of Chapattis We have visited this Restaurant many times and have noticed a few repeat of their management Lack of staff during lunch, hence if you would like to order from the menu, you need to be a bit patient as the dishes takes time to arrive. Only 2 staffs on duty and don't expect the best of service or smiles from them. Really can understand how chaotic it can become however your service should match your pricing on food served. It can seem pricy for some despite the fantastic taste of the food itself Evening is about the same however no Buffet option They seem to have more foreign staffs during dinner time who seem undertrained and under uniformed with one, which we noticed wearing a worn out footwear The Management, take note Uniforms go a long way for an establishment like yours. Good training too Simply scolding them will not yield any good outcome Just our sincere two cents worth of how you can improve your...
Read moreI am a pure vegetarian and have visited KL three times this year, so I frequent this place quite often. The food is really good! I've tried several menu items, but I won't go into detail except to say that the taste is consistently excellent. (Please do try Kachori or Kachori Chaat).
The entire staff is great, but Pankaj, Shadat and Shiva deserve special mention for their happy and greeting faces.
Shiva, in particular, is a gem - very polite, connected, caring, and efficient.
While there's a lot to praise, I'd like to offer a few suggestions to the owner:
Consider extending the restaurant's closing time to 10 PM, as I've seen many disappointed customers arrive just after 9:30 PM. Introduce a set meal option (like Thali) for the evening, even if it's limited in quantity and only served once. Extend the bottomless lunch offer to weekends as well. Unfortunately, I only got to try it on my last visit since I had meetings on weekdays. Please rework your Sev-tamatar Sabji recipe. It's currently too sweet, like ketchup, and needs a different cooking approach.
I hope these suggestions...
