Our second visit to this restaurant, can say there will be many more in the future. Their menu features a variety of traditional South Indian dishes. Our favourite would be the briyani as it’s cooked with seeraga samba rice. Loved their mutton & chicken curry, kantari prawn, green chillies mutton, chicken 65, fish fry and parotta. My 3rd visit: everything still yummy
22/9/2024 - 4th visit and I would like to talk about the restaurant management for this time around.
Erode Amman Mess is a restaurant that stands out not only for its delectable cuisine but also for its impeccable hospitality and time management.
The reservation process was seamless. I made a quick call earlier the previous day, and the staff were friendly and accommodating, ensuring our preferred time was available. Upon arrival, our table was ready, and we were seated about 10minutes later as we were waiting for the rest of the family member to arrive —something I truly appreciated, especially on a busy afternoon.
From the moment we stepped in, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. Their warm smiles and attentiveness set the tone for what would be a memorable dining experience. Despite the restaurant being fairly busy, we were promptly seated, and within minutes, we had menus in hand. The waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout the meal.
A special mention must go to the owner’s sister, Ms. Pallavi, who truly embodies the spirit of hospitality. She personally came over to greet us, taking the time to ensure everything was to our liking. Her passion for the restaurant and dedication to customer satisfaction were evident, and her personal touch made the experience even more special.
What truly impressed me was how efficiently everything was managed. Our orders were taken swiftly, and each course arrived in perfect timing—not too rushed, yet without any long waits. It was clear that the management value both the quality of the food and their customers’ time, which is rare to find.
Speaking of the food, it was simply outstanding. Each dish was rich in flavor, with spices perfectly balanced, bringing out the best in every bite.
Overall, it’s offers more than just a meal; it’s an experience. Their exceptional hospitality, attention to detail, and timely service—under the thoughtful leadership—make it a place I would gladly return to again and again. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine in a warm, well-managed environment! We are grateful for the day made a memorable one as we were celebrating our uncle’s retirement (virumandi clan that’s how Ms. Pallavi...

I recently had the opportunity to visit Erode Amman Mess, a South Indian restaurant in Kuala Lumpur that came highly recommended by an Indian friend. Located conveniently near KL Sentral and the Sentral Suites premises, this restaurant is steadily gaining a reputation for serving authentic Kongu-style cuisine that’s both delicious and reasonably priced.
Ambience & Service
We arrived during the peak lunch hour, and as expected, the restaurant was bustling with activity. Despite the crowd and energetic atmosphere, we could still **hold a conversation comfortably, and the service was impressively quick. The space was clean and well-organised, with a warm, welcoming vibe. Staff were attentive, and their ability to manage large volumes of customers efficiently was commendable.
Food & Flavour
I ordered the mutton biryani, which was made with seeraga samba rice — a signature of traditional Tamil Nadu cuisine. The taste was rich, aromatic, and satisfying, though slightly on the spicier side by my own standards (something to note for those sensitive to heat). Alongside it, I enjoyed a cup of masala tea, which was well-brewed and aromatic — the perfect complement to a hearty meal.
The portion size was reasonable, and the dish was well-balanced in flavor and texture. While I didn’t try other items on this visit, the variety on the menu suggests plenty of reasons to return — from banana leaf meals to side dishes like mutton chukka and chicken varuval, as well as traditional South Indian sweets and coffee.
Value for Money
At around RM24 for the mutton biryani, including tax, and additional for drinks, I found the pricing to be fair and competitive, especially considering the central location, food quality, and efficient service. It offers good value for a casual or hearty South Indian meal in the city.
Verdict
Erode Amman Mess delivers on what it promises — authentic South Indian cuisine served in a clean, comfortable environment at a reasonable price. The food is flavorful, freshly prepared, and clearly rooted in traditional cooking methods. Whether you're a fan of biryani, banana leaf rice, or simply looking for a satisfying meal near KL Sentral, this place is definitely worth a visit**.
✔️ Must-try: Mutton biryani, masala tea ✔️ Great for quick lunches, casual dinners, or group dining ✔️ Friendly service and clean ambience ❌ Spiciness may be high for some; arrive early to avoid...
Read moreI honestly fell for the hype of influencers constantly reviewing this restaurant on social media. Since today is a public holiday, my husband, my toddler, my mother and I thought we’d give it a try for lunch. Unfortunately, it was a complete let-down from start to finish.
When we arrived, the place was packed. There were chairs outside, and a man was taking down names to manage the queue. He was kind enough to prioritise us because I’m pregnant and had a toddler with me. That was the only positive part of our visit.
As soon as we entered and sat down, it felt like the air conditioning wasn’t working at all. The restaurant was hot, stuffy and extremely cramped, with bulky tables and chairs leaving almost no space to walk. Cleaners were constantly mopping the floor while customers walked in and out, adding to the chaos and discomfort.
Moving on to the food – it was a real disappointment. We ordered three banana leaf rice meals, a mutton ghee roast, and a prawn dynamite. The so-called mutton ghee roast turned out to be some other dish entirely – it tasted more like a perattal or something else and the mutton was so hard. Even after clarifying with the waiter, it was obvious it wasn’t what we’d ordered. The prawn dynamite was just a bland, overcooked prawn coated in an excessive layer of flour.
The vegetable dishes on the banana leaf rice were beyond underwhelming. They served channa stir-fry, some potato dish, bottle gourd, and field beans stir-fry, all of which were undercooked and lacked any flavour. The dhall dish was a mystery to us – it tasted odd and didn’t go well with the other items. I understand that the vegetable combinations change daily, but on a public holiday, you’d expect the restaurant to serve something decent. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
The only parts I mildly enjoyed were the podi and ghee that came with the first round of rice. It’s also worth noting that they don’t offer any non-vegetarian curry to go with the banana leaf meal – no chicken or mutton curry – just sambar, kathrika curry, rasam, and curd.
Overall, it was a frustrating experience that completely failed to meet the hype. I definitely won’t...
