Kin Kin is one of go to for many years and I think it’s one of the best pan mee out there still. During office hours, it’s very crowded and can get loud as it’s in an enclosed space but that’s not a problem to me. However, I’ve noticed as the years pass the laoban there is getting ruder and ruder. Maybe he’s getting old or too worked up but don’t put your stress on your customers, esp those who come often and enjoy your food. A lot of my colleagues have encountered getting scolded at by the laoban just for asking for some ice or tissue….. I was standing at a table that was yet to be cleaned and he came up to us and we thought he was going to take our order but instead got scolded at because he wanted to count the bill for another table. We proceeded to wait for another 15 mins standing and waiting for the table to be cleaned as well as our order to be taken but instead he’s cleaning other tables that have just left and counting the bills of customers that are just leaving (while I’ve been standing by the still yet to be cleaned table for 15 minutes now) or taking orders that are a closer reach to him…. Isn’t it more important to take the orders first bcuz either way we have to wait about 15-20 mins for our food. Counting the bills takes less than 2 minutes and majority of customers pay using e-wallet and he doesn’t even check for the receipt bcuz he has installed the TNG speaker. But oh well. We normally order our food straight at the counter when it’s busy because he’s usually standing there but since we already got scolded at we didn’t want to risk his temper. I’ve noticed also that the rest of the staff are not allowed to take any orders from customers as well as count the bill. Laoban wants to do everything. We ended up at super kitchen because of his attitude and food is not as great as kin kin but atleast all the staff there are attentive and is able to take orders, clean the table and do the cashier. No one is limited...
Read moreThis place needs no introduction. Ask anyone who loves a good bowl of pan mee and chances are you'll be given the name of this place. I am not a frequent visitor here as I have my other favourite stalls of pan mee but today I decided to give this place a try again after so long. We ordered 2 bowls of pan mee and another bowl of soup comprising of mixed meatballs, fishballs and foozhuk to share among ourselves. The place isn't spacious but enough to accommodate a fair number of tables. Despite the place wasn't exactly fully filled with patrons, the serving time was rather long after we placed our orders. So it's best to exercise some patience if you choose to dine here. We eventually got our bowls of pan mee and almost instantly we scooped up a small serving of their chilli flakes into our bowl and began to mix our noodles. The minced meat and fried anchovies gave a savory and salty taste while the poached egg helped to make the noodles creamy. The fried shallots and scallions added another dimension of aroma while the chilli flakes gave some intensity to the dish. All these ingredients nicely delivered a flavoursome pan mee. However, the texture of the noodles this time around weren't as chewy as I had hoped for and it lacked that bounciness that would have otherwise made it a near perfect pan mee experience. The pan mee soup that came together was very bland in taste so don't expect anything great. The mix of meatballs, fishballs and foozhuk were decent enough to compliment your noodles but likewise, nothing fantastic. Overall, I felt that my dine in experience today turned out to be a very average one. Unless I somehow find myself in that part of the town, I probably wouldn't be convinced to travel there just for...
Read moreBeen having an upset stomach everytime i come here! Totally my fault because i could not refrain myself from shoving heaps of dried chilli onto my noodles. It is just too delicious..... lets see now ...... "too delicious" ???...... then its Kin Kin's fault for making it "too delicious" then!!!
Why I can't stop myself from piling on the lethal red flakes? Well, in pursuit of gastronomical heaven, one would thrive to maximise ones enjoyment by enhancing the said dish with condiments specially selected by the chef ..... however my mouth has a higher chilli tolerance than my tummy...... and my tummy more than my behind. Well, you can imagine the burn continuing to get worse as the Chilli Pan Mee passes through 😂
On a more serious note, Kin Kin actually succeeds in being very consistent. The noodles tastes and feels the same each and every time. The poached eggs are always done to perfection. The soup base and minced pork tastes the same as it has ever did since my initiation some 10 plus years ago. It is equally mouthwateringly tasty today as it was then.
Theres is a wannabee competitor just across the road who has come admirably close but fail when it comes to the poached eggs, minced pork and chilli flakes. But this other shop has expanded to 10 locations already. So..... sometimes i wonder if it is nostagia that i have been pursuing all these years or is it the complacency of Kin Kin that has prevented them from expanding.... i would like to believe that Kin Kin wants to ensure total control over their consistency by...
