came to have some OG mamak since i’ve been away overseas at NZ for five years, brought my partner and her mama bapa over for holiday while i visited. went to this mamak at night with my partner (kiwi), and my brother (malay) so we could catch up.
Overall that night impossible to grab attention but easy to order, food and drinks were delicious, we were left alone to have our night time mamak conversations, everything was as it is. Tummies were happy, everything was great. It was a good night.
Decided to come again the next day to show the family malaysian breakfast (the whole family, who obviously looked like tourists), tell me why Raja Bhoja IV were frothing over them like mr krabs look at money ah ??? i tried ordering on their behalf in english and IN MALAY, dude DID NOT WANT TO LISTEN TO ME. acted like he didn’t understand the malay that i was speaking, but when i talk to other workers in the restaurant? eh faham also?????
anyways he kept dragging them over pointing at the most expensive stuff. my family kept saying no but they brought out a whole buffet, the whole restaurant if they could, had to tell them in malay to stop bringing us food, at this point we genuinely haven’t ordered anything yet other than drinks and just noodles ya. this guy racked up our whole bill almost up to RM200. at a god damn mamak. brought out only the expensive stuff without us knowing the prices. ignored me, even though i was clearly malaysian, and took advantage of us.
i would say yes the food is good, but if you’re a tourist, come at your own risk. careful of a greedy waiter who runs to you as soon as he sees you walk in, especially if ur a tourist. he’s the one looks like he runs the mamak like it’s the navy, people can be really money hungry.
TL;DR waiter takes advantage of tourists and traps them with meals they didn’t order. ignores a local just so he could...
Read moreFrom very humbled beginnings originating from Penang, 3 friends with a passion for food & hearts dedicated to the locals, started from a corner shop & built it into the famed chain it is today with an impressive 28 restaurants across Malaysia & even offering catering services for events. Having the honour to be approached by them to taste their food, we armed ourselves with our Leica & our rumbly tummies. Boy were we in for a treat!
We were treated to a spread of local delicacies such as Nasi Minyak, Nasi Briyani, Lamb Shank, Kari Kepala Ikan, Udang Goreng, Burung Puyuh and Chettinadu Chicken accompanied by sides such as Sayur Kobis & Dalca.
The Nasi Minyak & Nasi Biryani was leaning towards the lighter end of the scale taste wise. However, this might have been intentional as every other dish was flavourful & simply exploding with spices. Therefore, had both Nasi been a little stronger tasting the end result might have been over powering. But in this case, they went in perfect harmony. From the texture & flavours we could tell the ingredients used were fresh & more importantly dishes such as the Burung Puyuh & Chettinadu Chicken were juicy & tender within.
In addition, the curries were simply bursting with aromatic flavour with a splash of bitter sweet & a touch of citrus leaving us craving for more. Though their dishes were a little spicy, it was simply too addictive to resist resulting in us flooding our Nasi with more.
Thereafter we were given a short tour of the restaurant including the counter & kitchen where the cooks make the magic happen! All in all a very delicious meal & delightful experience! If you are looking for a place to Buka Puasa during this Ramadan period or simply a place to enjoy a local meal, look no further!

Read moreWalking into Nasi Kandar Pelita, I was immediately greeted by the familiar buzz of a true Malaysian mamak spot—plates clinking, the sound of fresh roti flipping on the griddle, and the unmistakable aroma of rich, spiced curries filling the air. The counter stretched long, lined with trays of vibrant dishes, each one more tempting than the last.
I grabbed a plate of steaming white rice and let the magic happen. The server expertly ladled a mix of kuah banjir—a flood of different curries that soaked into the rice, creating that perfect messy, flavorful bite. Then came the hard choices—crispy fried chicken with its golden, spiced crust, deep-fried squid coated in a rich, fiery sambal, and of course, a classic hard-boiled egg with thick, aromatic gravy.
Settling in, I took that first bite—the mix of curries blending together into something greater than the sum of its parts, each spoonful packed with warmth and spice. The fried chicken stayed crisp despite the curry flood, and the sotong had that perfect balance of chewiness and deep, smoky heat. Every bite was a burst of spices, textures, and the true essence of nasi kandar.
Late at night or in the middle of the day, Pelita always delivers—fast, satisfying, and unapologetically rich. It’s the kind of place where you walk in hungry and walk out full, happy, and already thinking about...
