1 star given and thats for the environment and furnishings of the restaurant.
I never have written bad reviews on restaurants but I ought to say this has to be the worst experience.
The course we had was Yu (RM 488 perpax) Food: 2/5 Hospitality: 2/5 (2 points for the waitress; 0 for chefs) Ambience:1/5
Sat down n were not greeted by the chefs. Chefs didnt bother checking if we have any allergies/ preferences and didnt bother to explain more on the food served. The chefs dont carry the professionalism that an omakase Japanese chef has.
Food were just normal. But its definitely not up to the standard of the menu price.
Ambience was awkwardly quietly, chefs didnt even initiate conversation n engage with u. Not friendly!
Internet often give false marketing. Dont expect to be served with food (or equivalent) you see they served to the influencers that they invited and sponsored.
Expected to be served with the torced sashimi that ppl on IG is raving about (for the extra flavor from the fish oil) Asked the chef why wasnt it served that way (was merely served in slice cut) he questioned and told us we should tell him we wanted that. LOL ??? (Cus we expected it to be serve on a later dish LOLLL so madd!!)
We were the only 2 customers during that time. The head chef didnt even serve us. You might often see him with an enthusiastic n smiley face serving customers onthe influencers IG, but in reality, he just appeared inthe beginning to slice the sashimi n he left his assistant to do the rest. n doesn’t check on customers experience.
We decided to try this restaurant cus there r outlets in SG &HK n i thought the standard wont go so wrong. But turned out, i was wrong abt it.
More service and food improvement. Definetely our first and last time to Sushi Mew.

Service could be improved as we noticed some confusion in who’s supposed to be served what (waiters exclaiming he is 268, no 168 etc); the same confusion occurred during payment (which we had to queue for) - this could be mitigated by naming each course and coming up with a nice little figurine or card to put in front of guests. Like Tokyo for 168. It’ll even be perfect for the gram and spare everyone the confusion/embarrassment. The cheque is also ideally brought to the table (payment can occur at the counter).
Would like to commend the layout that seamlessly allows for interaction with the chefs and maintains some semblance of privacy between different groups of guests.
While most utensils were beautiful, we were disappointed with the use of disposable chopsticks and plastic water (glasses). Everything else was wood, glass and ceramic.
Ventilation could be improved as we could smell oil - which ended up on clothes and hair when we walk out.
Overall a pleasant experience and hope the small suggestions of improvement...
Read moreSummary: Upscale Omakase-style sushi in Bukit Bintang, but with prices you'd expect somewhere out of town. Beautiful setting and great service make it worth a visit, but be warned, it's definitely modern and more fusion than your typical Edo-style Omakase
The amuse bouche (zensai) were surprisingly involved, a nice kisu tempura with truffle mayo and a crazy engawa-ikura cup. It did set the stage for a meal full of over the top combinations and flavors. It's certainly something different.
For the rm188 set, you get a small sashimi serving, 4 pieces of nigiri sushi and two handrolls. It's not a lot, but given how heavy all the food is, it was just about enough for us. All the nigiri had something ++. Kampachi belly (super rich), shima aji with truffle mayo, Maguro with truffle pearls, or scallops with torched foie gras. No classic clean flavors here! That said, if you only get four pieces, I understand they are trying to make them as memorable as possible
The handrolls were equally decadent, another engawa/ikura bomb and a negitoro with uni (served torched or raw) roll.
It's not for everyone, but if you like modern combinations with your sushi, it's an interesting and relatively affordable choice. Perfect for...
