I recently visited Tarboosh at TRX Mall, and my experience was disappointing on multiple fronts. While the prices are extremely high, I initially thought this might be expected given the location in Kuala Lumpur. However, the portions and food quality were completely unacceptable for the amount charged.
As a Middle Easterner, I was particularly disappointed with the presentation of the food. The portions were very small compared to the very high price, and the plating did not include all the well-known essentials, such as garlic sauce and fries, which are key to this dish's authenticity.
A specific issue I encountered was with the side orders of rice. I had initially ordered two portions but, after about five minutes, decided to add a dish and cancel one of the rice portions. The restaurant refused to cancel it, even though I made the request shortly after ordering. Considering how full the restaurant was at the time, it seemed impossible that the rice had already been prepared. This lack of flexibility was frustrating, especially since customers should have the right to modify or cancel orders that have not been served yet.
To make matters worse, when the rice arrived, it was very cold and tasted stale—almost like it had been sitting there since early morning. It didn’t taste fresh at all, which made the situation even more disappointing.
Lastly, we ordered apple juice for 25 ringgit, expecting a premium drink. Instead, what we got was a very small, basic juice that was no different from what you could get elsewhere for 9 or 10 ringgit. It was simple, unremarkable, and definitely not worth the high price.
Overall, Tarboosh fails to provide value for money, quality, or a true Middle Eastern dining experience. While the high prices might be somewhat justified by the location, the lack of fresh food, poor presentation, and unaccommodating service make it hard to recommend this restaurant. I hope they take these concerns seriously and work on improving...
Read moreIt was somewhat a welcome and farewell occasion for a colleague from Europe. And our first time to Tarbush. I love the environment. We were being escorted to the upper floor, which I do like. Their team are very accommodating to all our request and explained clearly what we wanted because it was our first time to this restaurant. Below are what we had:
Harireh - soup (mixed lamb with vermicelli and is kinda thick, taste wise alright coz 1st time tasting it); batata harra - appetizer (potatoes cubes that's super nice vegetarian dish); cheese naan... awesome taste... ; Mandi chicken - very tasty rice, and the chicken is super tender; Shawarma lamb platter - the lamb is slightly overcooked in my perception, but overall, I like the presentation and also the taste; Tarbush Mixed Grill with lamb, chicken & prawn - this plate is good.. the marinate is just on the dot; Mazze 1 with Hommus - mixed tahini, lemon juice, sesame with chickpeas, speciality of Tarbush (if you only have 1 Hummus option, pick this) and eat with their bread... heaven; Flatbread Fatayer Cheese - very cheesy.. 🧀; I had ice mint tea and also mango lassi towards the end.
A good time was spent with colleagues for a chat and came with lots of laughter too. Conducive environment and somehow we kinda have privacy because it is only us at the top - maybe we were noisy too.. hahaha.. thanks to everyone who serves us.. it was a wonderful 30th October for all of us...
Read moreThis was our first time at Tarbush Restaurant at The Exchange TRX, and we were looking forward to enjoying some good Middle Eastern food for Iftar as well as celebrating a small birthday dinner for our good friend. Each customer was given a tablet to place their order. Since our friend only drinks black coffee (Americano), he had no choice but to order the Nescafe Black Coffee, which was priced at RM45. We were taken aback. It's Nescafe—certainly not a premium brand like Davidoff or Moccona. When it arrived, it was just a black coffee ("Kopi O"), which felt like a ridiculous presentation, especially given the price.
As for the lamb and chicken mandy, they were mediocre—nothing special that we couldn't find at any other Middle Eastern restaurant. I also asked the restaurant manager if they could bring in the cake I had delivered and arranged for my friend's birthday. He told me that if I wanted them to bring it with candles and celebrate, there would be a charge of RM50. This was the first time I encountered such a fee at any restaurant. Even a small café would usually sing a birthday song at no extra cost.
Overall, it was a disappointing evening, but the Adena Tea saved the experience—it tasted just like Karak tea from Istanbul. To sustain their business, the restaurant needs to be more reasonable. Charging RM45 for a Nescafe black coffee is simply a...
