We recently celebrated a family birthday at Nong Geng Ji, and it was a delightful first-time experience. This restaurant quickly impressed us, not just with its food, but with a level of hospitality that made the occasion truly special.
The restaurant offers an open and comfortable environment. The layout feels spacious, preventing that cramped feeling often found in busy spots. It's a relaxed setting that's perfect for a family gathering, providing a cozy but lively backdrop for a meal together.
The Food: Flavorful and Balanced Nong Geng Ji's cuisine is bold and flavorful. While some dishes had a kick of spice, which we enjoyed, the taste was genuinely good and well-balanced. Crucially for a family, they offer a good selection of non-spicy dishes, ensuring there's something delicious for everyone at the table, regardless of their spice tolerance. Every dish we tried was fresh and satisfying.
What truly set this visit apart was the outstanding and warm service. The entire team was incredibly attentive especially Michelle, always ensuring our needs were met without being intrusive.
A special thank you goes to the manager, Andy. His hospitality was exceptional! Upon learning we were celebrating birthdays, he went above and beyond, providing us with a small gift as a thoughtful token. This kind of personal touch elevates a simple dinner into a memorable event. Andy’s effort and warmth made us feel genuinely valued as customers.
Overall Recommendation Nong Geng Ji is a fantastic choice for a family dinner. You'll find delicious, flavorful food, a comfortable atmosphere, and, most importantly, a staff that is dedicated to providing a top-notch experience. We highly recommend it and will...
Read moreDined in today 2/3/2024 at 7.02pm with family. It was a long queue ahead but the line moved pretty fast. We queued about 30mins. There were some seats, free lemon drink and snacks provided to customers while waiting for the queue. The staff were pretty friendly and nice. We were ushered to our table and ordered dishes via scanning QR code. First dish and two drinks were served pretty fast, however we were waited for 5-6mins for the rices but only came to our table after we asked for it and received it after 8mins later from the first dish arrived. The rest of the dishes were came in pretty fast but the last dish which was their signature dish aka stir-fried pork with abalone and chilli came to our table extremely late when we almost complete our meals. We were not very happy as the next table customers came in and ordered later than us but their stir-fried pork with abalone dish came in earlier than us. We wondered why. We ordered stir-fried pork with abalone and chilli, signature grass fish fillet, stir-fried dragon chives, Hunan steamed slices braised pork bellies, 1L signature lemon tea and 1L majestic Oolong tea. Overall, we enjoyed the stir-fried pork with abalone and chilli and the signature grass fish fillet as well as the majestic Oolong tea. However the foods were relatively slightly more...
Read moreThe Q caught me off guard I must say. Took me an hour to get a table. But that gave me a chance to look at what other diners ordered and peruse the menu. Menu is simple but well organized. You get the general idea what they offer at a quick glance.
The base taste is spicy. Most of the dishes have a spicy undertone to it. Even the braised pork belly preserved vegetable dish had a hint of spice. But this is a delicious dish. The play of flavours here is incredible. What makes it better is that it comes hot.
As a matter of fact all dishes tastes hot and freshly cooked when they arrive (except the fermented tofu of course). Which makes it a good dinner experience. I also enjoyed the stir fried grass fish fillet. I must say that the fish meat consistency is interesting. Not hard but long chewy strips of meat. I found it a new experience with regards to how fish fillet is cooked.
The fried pork with abalone and chili was a little spicy to me. The slow burn of the spice can catch you of guard. Abalone came in small chewy pieces while the pork was sliced well in bite piece portions. A little too much capsicum / chilli though. It's also quite oily. But that's how the dish is supposed to be served I would assume.
All in all I have a good dinner experience but it's not something that can be done...
