Thong Kee Plus — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

This is Thong Kee's 11th outlet which opened a month ago. The chain has one pioneer outlet in Bentong, Pahang and ten branches spread out across the Klang Valley. This latest outlet is their flagship store which is a complete departure from its usual kopitiam format.

This is a full-fledged cafe located on Level 2 of a high-end office building. What Malaysians would label as "atas" F&B concept. Think Oriental, Nanyang and Nam Heong.

Nestled among six fine dining restaurants in the 48-storey, transit-oriented, commercial TS Law Tower and connected to TRX by way of a covered walkway, Thong Kee Plus is well positioned to tap into the office, shopping and touristy crowds.

The kai see hor fun (kshf) @ RM12.90 I had was good. Generous portion of thick chicken slices, fresh prawns and smooth koay teow served in flavourful hot broth, all came together to orchestrate an immersive kshf experience.

Umami-packed broth was so good that it's difficult to resist not to slurp up the last spoonful!

For comparison, I'd rate the kshf here as on par with Wong Zhi's but a notch or two below Puchong 2323 kopitiam's Tricycle kshf (Ipoh Thean Chun's son) which I've earlier written a review on. Kshf connoisseurs would know who they are.

The missing X factors from the broth here are more prawn oil drizzle and aroma from sugar cane molasses.

Iced coffee (RM6.70) was good too but could be better if levelled up with stronger coffee shots and slightly more milk.

The menu presents quite an extensive variety at affordable price points. Despite the premium rentals of the area, Thong Kee Plus's reasonable pricing strategy certainly positions itself as an affordable place accessible to folks who work in the vicinity.

If you're a regular patron of Thong Kee kopitiams, do take note that the system here is different. There's no need to queue at the cashier's counter to order your drinks and pastries. Order everything while seated at your table by filling in an order chit and passing it to the waiter. Food will be cooked in and served from the kitchen. Unlike typical kopitiams, there are no tenant stalls here.

Ambience is good. Good crowd, good vibes. Full glass panel windows on two sides offer a clear view of the magnificent TRX next door.

With a seating capacity of just a tad below 100, good number of attentive waiting staff are on hand to see to customers' needs.

Service was quick. It took about 10 minutes for food to be served despite the good crowd.

It was definitely a happy, satisfying and feel good first visit for me. Certainly will go back to enjoy more good food and bask in the positive vibes. Perhaps during the coming Chinese New Year when it'll resume business on CNY 2nd day after a break of three days.
