Our recent visit to Vertigo Bar at the Banyan Tree Hotel in Kuala Lumpur was a rollercoaster of experiences, beginning with a frustrating first impression but ultimately salvaged by the exceptional service of Shahirah, a standout host who left a lasting impression.

Initial Experience : Despite having a reservation, our arrival was met with indifference by the initial host—a Malaysian or Asian staff member—who was cold and unwelcoming. As first-time visitors to Malaysia from Australia, this lack of hospitality dampened our excitement. Even after approaching the host, there was no warmth in her response, which was disappointing given the venue’s high reputation.

The Star of the Evening: Shahirah - Thankfully, our night took a turn for the better when Shahirah stepped in to attend to us. With her striking beauty, South American-like features, and radiant personality, she brought an instant charm to the experience. Her professionalism, warmth, and attentiveness were exemplary, ensuring that we felt comfortable and cared for. She was articulate, well-spoken, and genuinely invested in making our evening special.

Having worked at Vertigo Bar for four years, if I recall correctly, Shahirah's expertise and dedication shone through. She went above and beyond, turning what could have been a lackluster evening into a memorable one.

Ambiance and Cocktails: The rooftop ambiance was stunning, offering breathtaking views of the city skyline, especially magical just a couple of days before New Year’s Eve. The cocktails were well-crafted and complemented the sophisticated setting, adding a luxurious touch to our night. In terms of view of city skyline or NYE, I'd say Vertigo would rank top 3 best rooftop bar views.

Recommendation: Shahirah truly saved the evening and elevated our overall experience. She deserves recognition, and we hope to see her promoted to higher ranks. If you plan to visit Vertigo Bar, be sure to look out for Shahirah—her service will undoubtedly make your night unforgettable.

@manager - We did compliment Shahirah directly but please bring this review to her attention....

Disappointing Experience Despite a Great View

We visited this rooftop bar with high hopes, drawn by the promise of skyline views — and in that respect, it delivered. The view was indeed beautiful, and the cocktails were enjoyable. Unfortunately, we decided to leave after just one drink due to the overall poor service and lackluster atmosphere.

From the moment we arrived, the service felt inattentive. The hostess was preoccupied with her phone when we approached the reception desk, which didn’t create a welcoming first impression. We were seated at a table in complete darkness, despite other tables being equipped with lamps. No staff member noticed this, so I ended up walking over to another table myself to retrieve one. It’s a basic detail, but lighting really matters — both for comfort and practicality when reading menus.

When our drinks arrived, we greeted the server, but were met with a rather disinterested, mumbled response that added to the unwelcoming feel. The music, oddly, was another issue — songs changed every 7 to 10 seconds, which initially seemed like someone was skipping tracks, but continued long enough to become distracting and even laughable.

After finishing our drinks, we asked the same server for our bill. After waiting for around 10 minutes with no response or follow-up, we gave up and walked over to the bar to pay ourselves. Again, we couldn’t help but feel that it wasn’t forgetfulness, but a lack of interest in providing a good experience.

In summary: the view and the drinks were the only redeeming aspects. The venue lacks atmosphere, and the staff — particularly the front-of-house and serving team — seemed disengaged and untrained. We’ve been to many rooftop bars around the world, and this was unfortunately the poorest-run we’ve encountered.

Message to management: This venue has great potential, but that can only be fulfilled with better staff training and attention to customer experience. Small details like lighting, music flow, and timely, friendly service make all the difference — and right now, they’re all...

I am writing to share my recent experience at the Vertical Roof Top Bar in Kuala Lumpur. I wanted to express my utmost satisfaction with the incredible views of the Kuala Lumpur Skyline and the exceptional service provided by the staff.

First and foremost, I must commend the breathtaking views that this rooftop bar offers. The panoramic scenery of the Kuala Lumpur Skyline is truly a sight to behold. The meticulously designed space allows guests to fully appreciate the city's magnificent architecture while enjoying a relaxing atmosphere. Whether it's during sunset or at night when the city lights up, the beauty from the rooftop is truly awe-inspiring.

In addition to the stunning vistas, I was also thoroughly impressed by the level of service provided by the staff at Vertical Roof Top Bar. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted warmly and made to feel welcome. The attentive and courteous staff were always on hand to ensure that my needs were met and that I had a memorable experience. Their attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile truly enhanced my visit.

Moreover, I found the overall ambiance of the bar to be sophisticated and elegant. The stylish decor and comfortable seating arrangements provided the perfect setting for unwinding and enjoying the scenery. The bar itself offers an extensive menu of refreshing beverages and delicious cocktails, all expertly crafted by talented bartenders. The drink selections perfectly complemented the overall experience, and I found myself thoroughly impressed by the quality and presentation. I cannot speak highly enough of my visit to the Vertical Roof Top Bar. The breathtaking views of the Kuala Lumpur Skyline, coupled with the impeccable service, left a lasting impression on me. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a memorable and enjoyable evening in Kuala Lumpur.

Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to the opportunity to visit the Vertical Roof Top Bar again...

I wasn’t able to make a reservation yesterday as it was already fully booked. I decided to try my luck by walking in. Honestly, I didn’t expect to get a good table since I didn’t have a reservation. So, I got a table at the back of Vertigo Too, near the bar which was totally fine for me. But then… the manager, Mr. Mydeen, noticed it was my birthday! 😭 (crying in happiness) He took the initiative to move us to a bigger table with a better view! I’m really grateful for his kindness and attentiveness. The floor staff = Angel, Satiaya, Hatim, and Greenda were also very attentive. They even brought out the birthday cake my boyfriend had prepared and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ for me. 💕 It was such a touching moment. Even the bartenders took his time to join them for the moment. The bartenders made really good drinks. We loved their cocktails! The food was absolutely delicious, and the prices were reasonable and matched the quality. My boyfriend said the fries tasted like Burger King’s and we even ordered them twice! 😆 We also loved the parmigiana croquettes 😍 I really wanted to try the satay too, but it was a bit too much for just the three of us. Maybe next time! Before we left, at Vertigo, a beverage runner named Ng took the time to help us capture some amazing and memorable pictures with the Twin Towers and KL Tower in the background. Tip: If you see Ng, ask for help with photos, he’s really good at it! I would absolutely love to come back again for different occasions and with different people. Thank you to everyone for the wonderful hospitality. And kudos to Mr. Fayaz for leading such a great team at both Vertigo and Vertigo Too. 🙏🏼

(Detailed review below) 🍽️ Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🪴 Atmosphere ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ♿ Accessibility ⭐⭐⭐ 💲 Costs ⭐⭐⭐ 🧑🏽‍💼 Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Vertigo is a really nice sky bar located at the top of Banyan Tree Residences & Hotel, on level 59. It's right in the heart of KL in the Bukit Bintang area and serves impressive views of all the major tall buildings; KL Tower, Menara 118, TRX and Petronas Twin Towers. During the two occasions that I've been there quite recently, I've been quite lucky with the weather. Head there just before sunset and try to grab a seat at the edge (you may need to reserve, I did). There are also two levels to Vertigo; the first level has a lower glass barrier so it's easier to take photos of the views, the second floor has interrupted 360° views (you're literally at the highest floor!), but the glass barriers are higher (close to head level if not higher). 🍽️ Nice drink options and cocktails. The food is the bar snacks variety (wagyu burger sliders, satay, sausage platter, Korean popcorn chicken, tacos) so nothing heavy and surprisingly good. 🪴 The vibe is also surprisingly chilled; no strict dress code as far as I could tell (I was wearing shorts, shirt and shoes) and the staff never rushed us i.e. we stayed for as long as we wanted. The music did get louder as the night wore on. 💲 It's an expensive place IMO. Cocktails set me back around RM60 per drink. The satay (18 sticks) cost around RM92. I've still rated it quite high because it's worth the experience even if you order the cheapest drink. Oh, and check out the men's restroom too (stunning views as you relieve yourselves)!
