Chinese Comfort Food within The Comforts & Safety of Home
First off, this is a review on their delivery service and not dine-in.
Being the exclusive few Taiwanese restaurants to be awarded a Michelin Star, Ding Tai Fung requires no introduction. We have dined in their branches across South East Asia & have always departed with a satisfied & full tummy. But how do they fare in a take away?
Service: We placed the order via a third party app hence was pretty straight forward.
Packaging: Nothing much to rave about with ordinary take away boxes
✅ Prawn with Salted Egg (RM 45.47)
Taste: Despite having sat in a delivery box and exposed to the evils of a typical delivery such as moisture and a very reckless rider, the dish still arrived piping hot & intact. The prawns were fresh giving us a delightful crunch as we sank our teeth into it with the flavourful salted egg batter crispy on the outside & drizzled with chilli.
Price: Reasonable 🙆🏻♀️
✅ Pork Chop Fried Rice (RM 26.29)
Taste: Each grain of rice had a very smooth texture, evenly coated with egg & oil from the pork & sprinkled with chives. Rested on the top is a succulent pork chop which was slightly charred on the edges yet juicy within & sprinkled with pepper. The pork chop was seasoned beautifully, resulting in a well balanced dish which wasn’t too salty.
Price: Reasonable 🙆🏻♀️
✅ Sweet & Sour Chicken (RM 29.47)
Taste: They separated the sauce from the stir fried meat & peppers hence the meat, peppers & onions were still crunchy upon arrival & gave us the pleasure of pouring the sauce over the dish. The sauce was a little sweet especially with the onions already providing a tinge of sweetness to the dish with a splash of lemon balancing the whole dish beautifully.
Price: Reasonable 🙆🏻♀️
Recommended? Ding Tai Fung has been a crowd favourite & comfort food to some for years. Despite facing the challenges of a delivery service, they have not disappointed🙆🏻♀️

Read moreDin Tai Fung at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is an exceptional dining experience that perfectly captures the essence of Taiwanese cuisine. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by a warm and modern ambiance, with a view of the open kitchen where expert chefs meticulously handcraft each dumpling. Watching them work with such precision and care is a testament to the high standards that Din Tai Fung maintains across all its outlets.
The food here is truly outstanding. The xiao long bao, their signature dish, are the highlight of the menu. These delicate soup dumplings are a marvel—thin-skinned yet sturdy enough to hold the flavorful, piping-hot broth and tender pork filling. Each bite is a burst of savory goodness, perfectly balanced and deeply satisfying.
But the excellence doesn’t stop at the dumplings. The menu is extensive, offering a wide range of dishes that showcase the best of Taiwanese flavors. The fried rice is fragrant and fluffy, the noodles are perfectly cooked, and the vegetable dishes are fresh and vibrant. Every dish is prepared with the utmost attention to detail, ensuring a consistent and high-quality dining experience.
Service at Din Tai Fung Pavilion is top-notch. The staff are attentive, efficient, and knowledgeable about the menu, always ready to make recommendations or accommodate special requests. Even during peak hours, the service remains smooth and courteous, which adds to the overall dining pleasure.

Having gone to Din Tai Fung in multiple countries and cities, one thing I’ve noticed is that the menus occasionally vary. So the fun for me is trying new things. In the case of this Din Tai Fung, they had fried wantons. My family and I happily consumed all the food we ordered and patiently waited for the wantons...10 min go by, waiters don’t even stop to inquire how we are doing. Finally, I flag down one and he tells me to please wait 5 more minutes, scribbled on our ticket and takes it away. 15 min later, we are all fed up with the wait. I flag another waiter and very strongly word my displeasure and tell him that if they are not made, we don’t even want them anymore. His excuse is that the computers have not been functioning properly. He runs off quickly and comes back with them in short order.
There was no change to our ticket even with the extreme inconvenience to us.
Food was wonderful, but the service needs some more training. If we’d been informed of the appropriate extended time for the wantons then we could have made an...
