Located conveniently on the lower ground floor of The Garden Mall, near Jaya Grocery, Village Roast Duck is a great spot for casual dining with family and friends. While their roast duck, pork, and chicken are popular, they offer a wide variety of delicious Chinese dishes to suit various preferences.
What makes them stand out is their family-friendly atmosphere. Spacious round tables seat larger groups comfortably, and the attentive staff goes the extra mile to cater to families. They offer high chairs for toddlers and designated areas for strollers, making your dining experience smooth and enjoyable.
Every diner gets a complimentary bowl of flavorful soup to warm you up before the main course. Their signature Roast Duck Wrapper features thinly sliced duck, crispy cucumber, green onion, and a sweet dark sauce, all wrapped in rice paper - a must-try! On our recent visit, we also enjoyed the Cantonese wok-fried hor fun, mixed seafood fried rice in a lotus leaf, stir-fried vegetables in sambal sauce, tofu with stir-fry minced pork and pan-fried thin biscuits filled with red bean paste.
While the food may not be exceptional, it's decent and caters to various tastes. It's important to note that other Chinese restaurants in Mid Valley and The Garden Mall might offer higher food quality and a more refined dining experience. However, Village Roast Duck offers good value for its price point.
Although there might be a wait during peak hours, the tasty food and welcoming atmosphere make it worth it. It's an excellent choice for a budget-friendly meal with your family, especially if you're looking for decent wok-fried Chinese cuisine in a comfortable and air-conditioned...
Read moreOne of the better Chinese restaurant chains in town. Food quality is consistently high and service is usually prompt. This branch is one of my favourites, mainly because of the excellent service by the front captain on duty. I've encountered two, Andy(?) and Ah Mei, both of whom are always helpful, patient, and efficient. They make sure to take note of any special requests made and don't mind having to adjust how a dish is prepared, give extra sauces, and pack dishes for takeouts according to customer preference.
The food here too is top notch. What I'm always wary of when eating in Chinese restaurants is how heavy handed they can be with the salt, soy sauce and/or MSG. Here, the seasoning is done sparingly, so much so that slurping up the gravy is a joy. My favourite dishes here are the steamed three colour egg, char siu, spinach in superior broth, the fried homemade tofu with minced pork, and for noodles, the best and most popular dish here is the braised noodles with seafood and truffle oil (they always give 2 large prawns and 2 giant scallops with squid, in a delicious truffle oil infused broth, yum!).
Prices here are what you'd expect from your typical Chinese restaurants such as Canton/Dragon-i, Esquire Kitchen, Paradise Dynasty etc. But they do give a good portion and I'd much prefer to have a meal here where I can respected, satisfied, and not wanting to chug bucketfuls of water after. It gets very crowded during meal hours, but many people also order takeout. During weekday lunch hours they have set menus which seem to be very popular with the office crowd.
This is a place I eat at regularly and definitely would...
Read moreWould like to give zero star if there is such option. The portions are very small yet expensive. We have to order 8 dishes for 5 ppl (3 guys + 2 ladies) bcz of the small portions. Usually at other restaurant, 5 dishes are more than enough but not here.
Went here at 6pm but all the ducks and roasted pork all sold out. Very disappointed as i purposely came here to try their duck.
Soy sauce chicken: served cold, is it should be this way? Steam cod fish with garlic: nice but very thin (smaller than my finger width size) Deep fried king fried prawn with oat: nice! But only got 5 prawns Sambal belacan kangkung: meh String bean with minced pork : so-so Stir fried scallop with xo sauce: not sure they got put salted fish or nt, taste salted fish and vr salty Spare ribs with noble sauce: meat is tender but not all the same, the sauce is quite bland Beancurd with minced pork: so-so, nothing impressive
Damage: RM347.50 in total Staff service: have to call many times to get in, they all seems like got their own duty, cant cross over to help (saw three staffs in front of kitchen standing, point to someone else when ask them to take order) Speed for dish to be served: good, quite fast
Overall, will i come back...
