Delicious and enjoyable spicy beef stew. I guess the level of spiciness would be acceptable to most. The beef had an optimal portion between fat and lean.
From the beginning I asked the waiter whether the "asam pedas tetel" (RM7) includes rice and he said yes. I found it a bit surprising so I asked the same question in a clearer manner again specifying whether the RM7 dish did include rice and he assured me that the "asam pedas tetel" on the menu, RM7, includes rice. I was convinced since I remembered reading a review here saying that the dish "came with rice and egg".
However upon paying, the lady charged me RM3 extra for the rice. I explained that wasn't what the waiter said, but she showed no apology and even disrespectful attitudes and didn't even ask the waiter whether it was true or let him clarify me on the situation. I might have ordered the same thing knowing that, but it was a different thing that you were not given a chance of having an informed choice on the first place but instead was fed false information.
It was a shame as it would have been a good restaurant serving nice food and that the only thing I didn't like is too many flies. It would have been a four-star review however now it became a suspect of tourist scamming and I had to reflect the...
Read moreThis place is located right in front of Casa Del Rio Residences, the residence is just next to Casa Del Rio hotel. (The green and yellow lights as decoration would confirm to you it's the right place). I would give a standing ovation to the asam pedas tetel menu. It's spicy, acidic, fragrant and the meat chunks were so tender it could melt straight away once it landed in your tongue. You can also choose between Adam pedas with fish (pari/kembung/tenggiri) and the set comes with a plate of white rice, spoonfuls of stir fried cabbage strips mixed with carrots and also a half piece of salted egg. However, if you prefer fried noodles that is prepared in the style char kuay teow (rice noodles cooked with a little spicy chilli sauce, soy sauce, some prawns and chives), this isn't a place for you as noodles served in Malacca is different, the yellow noodles are cooked in a very simple way, simply with the colour is still the same, with some chicken, a little bit of greens, some chicken cubes and a sprinkle of fried onions. It could appear as boring to some people because it's not spicy, it tasted salty and fragrant but could be also described as a bit bland. I think children and tourists who prefer not so spicy food would love the taste...
Read moreComes with somewhat low expectations after reading others reviews, however following are my review after embracing the experience myself.
Going during lunch hours and ordered the following menu-
Asam pedas tetel Asam pedas ikan kembung 2 sets of rice - which included stir fry bean sprouts and a spoonful of sambal belacan Iced lemon tea
My review on the food:
Asam pedas tetel - the gravy kind of diluted. Was expecting more sourness and could add a bit more spiciness to the gravy, and cook longer to make it thicker. However the tetel (meat) itself was surprisingly soft and perfectly cooked in the asam pedas stew. The fats and meat tendons melted easily literally in my mouth. No effort needed to chew the meat.
Asam pedas ikan kembung - the gravy for this dish was thicker, has a stronger flavor and more spicy compared to asam pedas tetel. For RM 8.00 per serving, it's quite a steal. The size of fish also considerably cheap for the price being charged.
Other comments - hoping for better improvement on amenities (toilet) and beverages. Please improve your beverages, as I think it is quite below the par. The rest - good enough...
