After jonker walk shopping, we decided to have dinner at GravyBaby seeing the extravagant interior design. Oh i was fooled, nightmare begins. I experienced horribly having dinner served by rude arrogant waiters.
Waiters dont look welcoming, looks like they hate their job and didnt want to be there, look impatient when we ordered with him. Called for the waiters a lot of times dont bother, they were all gathered at the other side of the hall facing backwards standing freely not doing anything laughing about trying to kiss one another not even joking. We ordered a 4 different combination of pies , and when it came one of those guys randomly answered saying it was beef & lamb. No one even ordered lamb. Pretty sure 2 of them were fish. Manager said he was new still in training.
First time here, ordering their signature pie, I was not told I have 2 choices of sides. The menu did not even mention 2 sides. When the food arrived, 2 servings of large mash potatoes seems ridiculous. Spoke to the manager about it , he apologised however the waiter came back to question me "u say all mash potato i gave u all. This was the 2nd waiter who took our order impatiently.
The seat at the entrance feels like an oven, sweating while eating was unpleasant. Mushroom soup was salty, could not even finish. Vegetable gravy tastless.
Talked to the manager about our situation, he questioned me is it he didn't allow us to sit upstairs that is why i was causing a scene? I felt so insulted on how "wise" he was , I was in awe by his quick judgement. (We asked if we could sit upstairs because it was quiet n they had a lovely view, he said no even if we offered to tipped him. We understood immediately and just said its ok we were just trying our luck)
He did offer us to let us take away extra sides but what the heck we finished our food already dabao back home to eat is not why we came here. He offered cake, but seriously we did not have the mood to sit there and experience the awful tension. Manager said will improve next time when I come but I don't think I will support this establishment any longer due to his arrogance and his poor leadership. It was also fathers day. I brought my father and my husband , and also spoke highly of this restaurant as I had a wonderful experience in gravy baby bukit damansara KL. This made it 2 times worst.
This is probably what happens when u let a bunch of let loose handle and take charge of your beautiful restaurant. They will turn it into a zoo.
Beautiful interior but ridiculouly awful...
Read moreI'm surprised at how delicious and affordable this place is. Located at the busiest part of the town, most places are just tourist traps. However, I'm so glad to have tried GravyBaby despite waiting for 30 minutes for a seat. Though some food items tastes nothing special, I think it's pretty decent considering the atmosphere.
First of all, the place is just all about 80s glam and movie star feels. You get to sit on movie director chairs and the view of the Melaka river is stunning. Their food selections are vast with western cuisines from breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner options. I went here for brunch and I recommend getting (though you should try anything on the menu):
NEW YORK BRUNCH. Just a normal brunch meal with surprisingly delicious waffles, fried eggs, hashbrowns, ham, sausages and a half grilled tomato.
FRENCH DIP. A cheesy pulled beef sub served with gravy. I'd be upset if the gravy wasn't good as their whole restaurant is named GravyBaby! But it was actually good eaten with the pulled beef sub!
IRISH COFFEE. A wake me up call of my two favourite combinations... coffee and alcohol!
They claim to have the best pies and so I'm looking forward to come back again to try. The staffs were super friendly and transparent about the waiting time to avoid disappointment towards their customers. Overall great...
Read moreI recently dined at GravyBaby Melaka on Jonker Street, and while the food was quite good, I encountered some issues with the service. Unfortunately, the staff's attitude towards customers was disappointing. The individuals attending to customers lacked friendliness and didn't seem to have much respect.
When I requested to go upstairs, I was informed it was closed due to a lack of staff, yet I later found the area accessible. It seemed the staff was reluctant to move between floors. Moreover, a friend finishing a donut was told that outside food wasn't allowed, though there was no visible policy indicating this.
When I inquired about a manager, I was told there wasn't one, which struck me as unusual for a restaurant. Overall, despite GravyBaby Melaka's excellent location and tasty food, the poor customer service and unprofessional behavior of the staff left a negative impression. It is my hope that they invest in staff training to enhance the overall dining experience. I won't be returning to this establishment and would caution others, especially from Australia, to consider alternative dining options due to the subpar service and unwelcoming attitudes, particularly...
