I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Royal Press in Malacca, and it was an unforgettable experience. As one of the world’s oldest surviving letterpress printing houses, this place is a unique blend of history, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage.
From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the antique machinery and tools that have been preserved and are still in use today. The guided tour was both informative and engaging, offering fascinating insights into the history of printing, the art of typesetting, and the cultural significance of printed materials in Malacca’s history.
The highlight for me was watching the skilled artisans demonstrate the letterpress printing process. It was incredible to see the meticulous attention to detail and the level of passion that goes into preserving this traditional craft. I even had the chance to print a small souvenir, which was a wonderful keepsake to remember the visit.
The Royal Press is not just a museum but a living workshop, and it’s a must-visit for anyone interested in art, history, or cultural heritage. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Malacca. It’s an experience that truly immerses you in the beauty of traditional printing and the legacy of...
Read moreFinally made it here in early Dec21 and visited The Royal Press (TRP) together with my wife. My wife and I love all things about the heritage and traditions that go into printing via press.
Amin, our guide for the evening, took us for a private tour from the front of the building and right to rear space, where all the vintage press printing blocks are stored.
Learned so much from the tour as Amin is knowledge central with TRP's history. Amin's passion shone throughout the tour and his approach is candid yet relaxed.
During our visit, Amin was just a one-man show taking care of TRP. So, be patient as Amin will be more than happy to attend to you.
Lastly, for all visitors visiting TRP, please respect the heritage/history these walls encapsulate and do not steal/take any of the exhibit items (for the benefit our everyone to...
