I never gave one star on reviews, but this I had to. On 18th December me and my firends in total of around 15 people wanted to dine there. But at first only me and other 5 arrived at the restaurant, and so we told the waiter that our friends not arrived yet.
The waiter told us to sit outside and wait, after around 10mins plus, they invited us in and sit at the biggest table and I said our friends still not yet arrived. They acknowledged and told us to sit and order first.
We did exactly what the waiter said, after ordering the food and taking pictures of the environment. Suddenly an old man cane to our table and starting to raising his voice on us.
He said that we're not allowed to sit down if our friends are not yet arrived, this is one of their rules and many more with a arrogant tone. We told the old man that we're invited in even though we told the waiter our friends are otw. The old man kept saying "you cannot sit down, you cannot bla bla bla, everybody are waiting outside queuing, bla bla bla!"
After he went away, the food arrived but we don't have the appetite to eat anymore, all of us just left the restaurant, and the old man was standing by the front entrance. I told him that we don't need this here, and we wouldn't bother you doing your business. He didn't even bother to reply.
I'm used to be a culinary chef myself, worked in different 5 stars hotel, but I never seen such rude attitude towards customer, even in the peak rush hour you can't yell at customer and why not you try to improve your place and services to serve more people at once instead of blaming there's too much...
Read moreI recently visited Heritage Flavours, a Baba Nyonya cafe that serves authentic Baba and Nyonya food, and had a great experience. I tried the Nyonya laksa and some mantou with beef rendang, and both dishes were full of flavor. The laksa broth was a bomb, with rich coconut milky flavors, a hint of spiciness, and a strong fish flavor. The fried bean curd and fresh veggies were also great additions to the dish. The mantou was soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, and the beef rendang was cooked to perfection.
I also tried their fruit juice, which was refreshing and perfect for a hot day. The atmosphere of the cafe was nice, and the prices were affordable. The staff provided fast service and were very friendly.
However, one thing that could be improved was the temperature in the top floor area. It was quite warm and uncomfortable while we were eating, so adding some fans or air conditioning would be a great improvement.
Overall, I would highly recommend Heritage Flavours for anyone looking for authentic Baba and Nyonya food. The food was rich in flavor, the atmosphere was great, and the staff was friendly and efficient. I can't wait to come back and try...
Read moreA bold claim that is rightfully made. The flavours are indeed of the straights Chinese food heritage. Flavours that not many have had the privilege of tasting and appreciating. But then, I forget that this is in Melaka, home of the baba nyonyas.
I can attest to the flavours here as a baba growing up eating peranakan dishes till today. Being an out of town visitor, I've only patronised twice and managed to try the nyonya laksa and buah keluak.
Needless to say that the nyonya laksa gravy had all the spices that birthed its name. It tasted exactly as how my late Aunt made it and how I make it now. The ingredients and methods are easy enough to replicate but is often not so other places. Add a side of sambal belacan and it's makan time.
I haven't had buah keluak for quite awhile and was pleasantly surprised at seeing this on the menu. Not many know of this dish, even fewer know how to prepare it and buah keluak is not easy to procure or supply. It was only available on my second visit and it tasted simply amazing and I am content with the knowledge that many others are able to experience and taste this delicious dish.
Excellent food, service...
