The cafe had expanded its space to the one right opposite to its original position. My family and i found a table there and sat there for 10 mins but none of the waiter nor waitresses came over to clear our messy table nor bring us the menu. The cafe was not busy at that moment. I kept looking at the waitresses who were at the cashier all the time (even when there was no customer queing for payment) and after a long time finally she came over to attend to us. We order 2 pizzas and beverages. When the pizzas were finally ready after a long wait, the waitress who was forever at the cashier (staring in the blank) served the pizzas to us without any cutlery nor plates and left straight after without even asking if we need any utensils. I tried to call her back after several attempt as she was hiding at the back of the cafe and the other servers could not be seen in the cafe at that moment. When she finally came over, i asked for 2 plates with forks and knives. She acknowledged my request but roamed around the cafe and forgot about it. I had to remind her again and she finally came back with 2 plates; no cutlery. Therefore i asked for fork and knives. Guess what? She came back with one set of fork and knife! I was utterly speechless with her IQ and EQ. A while later, a Malay waiter passed by and i requested another set of fork and knife. He looked at us with extreme poor attitude! And when he came back, he dumped the set of fork and knife right in front of my child's face (without even looking where he was dumping). The fork and knife scattered on thw table with a loud thug! Luckily the sharp knife nor the fork bounced up high enough to hit my child's eyes! Yet that Malay waiter just stood beside us staring elsewhere without even apologising! I believe Geographer Cafe is a reputable brand therefore it is to my astonishment to experience such meagre service from them. Their kitchen closed at 10pm and that blur waitress (forever at the cashier) rushed out with the bill esperately demanding us to make payment. I asked her what time the cafe close and she replied 2am. Thus i questioned her why the hurry to bill. She said because the kitchen had closed. Then i asked her since the cafe closed at 2am, could i still order drinks after the bill. She replied yes but it will be a separate bill. I find such process absurd as i never encounter this in any other similar places. Why can't they accumulate the bill even though the kitchen had closed. These are 2 different entity; both don't seem to inter-relate at all. Anyway, I paid the bill as i just wanted to get out of that horrendous place in order not to spoil my mood. However, rather than the chinese waitress coming back to pass me the change, that Malay waiter came instead and again stamped the money on the table with his body back facing us and looking elsewhere! This experience totally ruined my impression of Geographer Cafe! The newly opened pub cum restaurant (2 storey high) situated next to H&M along the riverside has 100 times much better service even when it is crowded. The ambience is romantic and the food quality is awesome! I have stroke off Geographer Cafe from my recommendation list...
Read moreA laid back cafe with amazing food and great service…….basically ticks off almost everything on a good cafe list! We found this gem on an evening when we were looking for dinner options along the Jonker Walk, which had most of the eateries closed and as tourists we were not aware 😮 Right at the corner and yes very touristy but in a good sense; plenty of vegetarian/vegan options and also a very good collection of western and local menu. The chefs seem to be very good at their job and would like to say that each of the ‘chef specials’ were really worth the try. Special mention to their pizzas……..not exactly the Italian thin crust pizzas but the ones they make definitely need applauding - fresh ingredients and the crust is so light. We visited the cafe on two consecutive evenings for dinner and tried few dishes, all good - pineapple fried rice, Jonker fried rice, Hawaiian chicken pizza, Greek/veggie pizza, Jonker special curry that is an assortment of all vegetables in a flavourful broth with fried tempeh on the side, grilled chicken salad (although the dressing was too sweet) and fresh coconut. The staff is prompt and very hospitable. They have this cool button at the table for service/billing and it’s really convenient. Despite being at a central location on Jonker street, the prices are at par with other cafes. From past reviews we read they had live music but we didn’t get any 🙁 Yet, the place doesn’t fail to have the relaxed vibe where one can catch-up with friends/family over nice...
