This restaurant specializes in Baba Laksa and Nyonya Asam Laksa, and they are absolutely delicious. The rich, flavorful broth perfectly coats every strand of noodles. It’s truly mouth-watering. The most important dish, of course, is the Cendol. This is a must-try and complements the laksas perfectly. All three dishes are simply outstanding. However, the self-service aspect of this place can be a bit inconvenient. If you’re dining with a companion, one person needs to stay at the table while the other goes to the counter to place the order, wait for the food to be prepared, and then bring it back to the table. The prices vary depending on the ingredients you add to your laksa. The base price might be around RM12++, but it can go up to RM14, RM16, or more depending on the number and type of additional ingredients you choose, such as stuffed tofu and other extras. Despite this, the place is quite popular and often crowded because of the excellent food. The ambiance is decent. There are cabinets on the left wall filled with notes from various places, giving the place a unique feel. However, the seating is limited, so there can be a bit of a wait for a table. Overall, while the self-service and variable pricing are slight drawbacks, the incredible taste of the Baba Laksa, Nyonya Asam Laksa, and Cendol make it worth a visit.

I like it, and learnt that there are several kind of LAKSA accross Malaysia cities, everything has its own speciality. BABA LAKSA is mostly contain fish soup with sour spicy taste, more clear soup than NYONYA LAKSA, which is more rich in taste because of santan (coconut milk). Both are good to try for experiencing Malaysian food. And surprisingly they have the mix of those two and they named it LAKSA KHAWIN and it taste unique as the picture I provided below, it has the sour spicy taste and also the rich taste of santan. FYI, there is difference between BABA LAKSA from Melaka and Penang Laksa, Baba Laksa is more mild comparing to Penang Laksa either in sourness and spiciness, but from my opinion both almost the same from the way it was cooked. You should try their cendol. What makes them different is gula melaka (brown sugar from Melaka) taste also different from Gula jawa (Indonesian brown sugar) both are sugar from coconut, but somehow they differ. And the place also old, we also try the fish cake, it goes well with Laksa, but not really goes well with the sauce they gave us (I think it was rojak sauce), just eat it without sauce is already good. If you plan to have lunch, goes there when they start open, avoid 12noon because it is too pack of people.

Have been here for 4-5 times at different point of time. Food wise, I would say that the portion is getting lesser and lesser and the food quality is deteriorating over the past 1-2 years. Though the laksa is still one of the best in Melaka. HOWEVER, I just wanted to point out that one of the lady cooking there is very rude. I ordered from cashier 1 asam laksa and 2 nyonya laksa but somehow the cashier heard it as 3 asam laksa. Then I try to correct the issue but telling another lady who is responsible for cooking since the cashier wasn’t there. To my surprise, the lady told me off by saying “We don’t understand your language” despite me being a LOCAL Chinese Malaysian and conversing in Chinese language only. This pissed me off so much because I have heard multiple complain from my friend that one of the lady there got such attitude problem. I haven’t experienced such issue first hand before but since today I had, I just wanted to share this so that the future customers would knew this issue. Otherwise, other than this particular attitude issue, other things are generally normal thing you find in a famous restaurant. Busy, packed, long queue, and they tend to “chase” you away strategically by taking the bowls away immediately once you finished eating.

19-Aug-24: The last time I tried their cendol and laksa was 10 years ago. I decided to give it a try again during my birthday. When I approach the shop, I was greeted by an uncle, who I believed is the owner of the premise. Inside has 2 stalls, cendol & laksa. But I can feel that both stall owners are not friendly to each other. I ordered laksa at the cendol stall, the aunty looks not happy and ask me to order at other stall. I ordered Nyonya asam laksa, which basically looks like a watery Penang laksa. Quite disappointed. Big bowl, but small portion, RM12. I think Baba curry laksa is better. But judging from the look, I think the quality has dropped a lot. They look totally different from what I remembered 10 years ago. The cendol is still nice though. It is very creamy and just sweet enough from the Gula Melaka Syrup. But it is expensive, RM7 per bowl. Usually cendol elsewhere cost RM3-4 only. I don't recommend order cendol with durian or other flavor as they taste fake. Nevertheless, I don't feel comfortable with the ambience due to the stall owners and not happy with the food prices. If I were to come back, I probably try the cendol only.

I'll admit when I found out about this place I thought to myself it's a tourist trap. Once I tried the Baba Laksa I was pleasantly surprised. The broth is lighter than any Laksa I ever had and yet it is extremely flavorful. Just the right amount of heat to it that you will sweat but won't burst into flames. The fried beancurd is excellent but the star is the dipping sauce that comes with it. I'm not 100% but it seems to use gula Melaka instead of sugar to make it and it has a distinct taste to it. Also had the taupok which is spongey and soaks up the broth as you eat it so it can burn your mouth if you're not careful. Ordering the baba Cendol really helps tackle the heat of the Laksa and everything else. They use fresh coconut milk and gula Melaka on it so they don't skimp on the flavors. I ate lunch here 2 days in a row coz this place made every eatery in a 1km radius seem extremely mediocre. The staff are a little firm if you don't follow their instructions and it can be a madhouse. I don't recommend parties larger than 4 as the seating is.. chaotic. Other than that I would recommend this be your #1 spot at least in the Jonker area.

I'm usually the type to order food delivery as I know they usually have long queue here and I'm also too anxious to dine in xD personally know the owners, they're nice people! Price: $$ I have tried their asam laksa before and it was very rich, a bit spicy and a bit sour. It was quite flavorful. decided to try out their asam laksa kahwin baba laksa and I was actually quite full already mid eating them. Very generous amount of gravy and spices, thick in consistency as well. Their ALKBL is quite spicy and flavourful as well. It contained shrimps and they're quite generous to peel the heads off when they're serving. Consistency isn't watery and very creamy. I topped up another 2 PC of fried bean curd with it. They put them in a seperate plastic which was great, very considerate. Price was actually considered generous as they're using fresh ingredients and the amount of it isn't little! Do give this place a try when you're in melaka, please be kind to the worker as they're working hard on making everyone comfortable and happy during busy hours!
