The first day I went, the food was average but the owners were nice especially the aunty. Since they were OKU and nice, I decided to go there for breakfast again the next day but to my dismay, the uncle was very rude compared to the day before. I saw that they were busy as there were a few tables so I decided to leave the menu and order on their table and the uncle kept telling me to wait rudely. I know that they are deaf so I showed gestures and smiles just to try to convey to him I am not rushing him but I was met with a very rude attitude. So I went back to my seat and when my boiled eggs arrived, the bowl was dirty so I asked for a tissue and the uncle scolded me and pointed at that he's cleaning the tables. I know that. I am not blind. I just asked for a tissue politely and he can provide it to me later after he cleans. I showed smiles again and gestures to show again I am not rushing and I know he's busy but come on lah, there were only 3 tables and compared to the other stalls which were packed, they didn't show attitude like this uncle. Not only that, I saw a child mistakenly thought his utensils were the next door stall's and tried to take a tissue but the uncle saw and shouted at the kid so she got scared and the nice kakak on the right stall told the kid to take from hers instead because the old man is "memang cam tu." That incident further escalated his temper and he kicked and threw the chairs while I was eating. So disappointed and disgusted by the attitude. I decided to support the couple despite the food being average but was met with such attitude. Other passers-bys kept looking and I felt second hand embarassment because I'm eating there. Furthermore, he scared manh customers away. I should have walked off the moment he scolded me for the menu. Will not be coming back here again. Totally ruined...
Read moreFood is mediocre if not bad. You can get the same quality of food almost everywhere else. But the owner’s attitude is rude. Yes, I understand that they are deaf and mute. I sympathize them and which is why I decided to give it a try despite the limited seats available and waited for 10 minutes. To our surprise, the owner decided to serve the other customers first even though they came later than us. And not just one, but two groups of customer who came later than us. They got their menu and order done and finished their meal before us. We spent our precious one hour on waiting for food that we could basically get anywhere else. Overall, the food, service, and price are not worth the wait at all. Not to mention the vibe is so terrible since the owner is so unhappy to do his job. The negative mood is infectious and it makes everyone sad in the morning. I see no reason why anyone should be treated that way as a customer. Perhaps the owner should learn how to be more orderly and systematic when serving the customers, or runs a business he truly enjoys without scaring the...
Read moreFinally got the chance to drop by on a Monday afternoon after many years of visiting the highland itself. It's a simple, humble stall manned by an elderly couple. While the husband didn't seem welcoming, the wife has the sweetest smile as she took down our order using simple signing.
The banana pancake and other food we ordered on the menu was nothing close to Michelin quality, but was filled with utmost warmth of cooking it from the heart. We exchange our goodbyes with a brief 'chat' that brought tears to my eyes.
They might not be in F&B for real, but it's a decent, honest earned living, not from begging, but from a managing a small, humble cafe that God knows, for how long. If you see that they are already serving a handful of customers, please understand their predicament and proceed elsewhere to which I'm sure food won't be a difficult thing to find in Tanah Rata alone.
So why 4 star? To me it's an eye-opening humbling experience of patronising a stall run by an elderly deaf couple. So come if you're hungry, not because you want to...
