Having dined at their other branches in Mid Valley and also Sunway Pyramid, Fong Lye finally opens its doors in 1 Utama. Taking over another restaurant which used to sit in the same spot, it’s just next to Zara on the Ground floor.
This beautifully decorated restaurant simply oozes a very chill atmosphere, and with really generous spacing between tables, one wonders why they don't fit in more tables especially when it gets crowded during weekends and there's a queue.
The menu is pretty much similar to what it was before with more additions There is an extensive range of items but most diners opt for the set meals which are good value for money and gives you a soup, the main dish and normally a side dish as well. The combination varies from set to set.
The food here is very good and I was glad that my BBQ Pork set was still available and was just as good as ever. We also ordered a fish set, a pork cutlet cheese and also black pepper pork set as well. All were excellent.
Notably, the soup that came with the sets was also very, very good. The watercress soup with one (just one) meatball was superb.
Prices have gone up considerably, and sets are now priced at about RM40 - RM45 on average. But for the superb ambience and food quality, it's not surprising why it's still attracting so many people to dine here.
A must visit for those who...
Read moreI had always like to eat Fong Lye especially the Midvalley branch. This is first time I had decided to try out One Utama branch. Food standard same as MV so it was good.Ambience is good and service is also good.
However there is one thing I can't accept is the way they handle food and cutlery are totally unhygienic. One of staff after fixing his face mask using his hand at the center part of the mask then he straight away use the same hand take the clean spoon and put it back to the display area. He took each spoon ( the part where you scoop your food) and put it at cutlery display area.
Another staff went to a corner and he open his mask and had big sneezing. After that he used his hand wiped his nose few times then never washed his hands and just went back to serve customer.
Another staff use his hand to take out the leftover food ( dried /fried type )from the plate and put into take away container then pack it nicely and pass to the customer.
I just want to say is totally very dirty the way how their staff work. This is a nice restaurant but their frontliner hygiene is really making the whole standard goes down. Serious I won't try my luck to go second time at...
Read moreWas recommended by a friend who patronise Fong Lye at TRX. The outlet at 1U was spacious and bright. Nice ambience and friendly staff. As for the food, the stramed fish with fermented black beans set was delicious. The fish was fresh, well cooked not overpowered by the black beans. The other highlights were the stir fried green vegetable, fried just nicely, not overcooked (could not remember the name of the veggie), and the Taiwanese style beef that comes with refreshing sauce and thinly sliced ginger. The pork pie was also quite nice.
The disappointment was the coffee I ordered, which has 2 coffee ice cubes ball. By the time my meal finished, the ice cube coffee were still solid, thus the coffee tasted very watered down. Also the ice coffee cubes looked like its mixed with a lot of water. I had this type of coffee in another cafe before, their frozen ice cube coffee was solid coffee concentrate which melted into the fresh milk quite quickly making their cold coffee latte very smooth, creamy, and has robust coffee taste.
Other than the coffee, would come back to try the other Taiwan...
