Many friends and reviews had praised the restaurant’s hospitality, and I was excited to finally try it myself. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I had anticipated, as poor service overshadowed what should have been a memorable meal.
Upon being seated, the issues started right away. The waiter assigned to our table approached us with an indifferent attitude. There was no warm welcome or helpful introduction that I had heard so much about. Instead, he handed us a tablet to place our order and immediately walked away without offering any explanation or assistance. As first-time diners, we struggled to navigate the digital menu and were left unsure of how to proceed.
After several minutes of confusion, we tried to get the waiter’s attention. He ignored us multiple times, and when we finally managed to ask for help, his response was nothing short of rude. Instead of helping us with the menu, he made a sarcastic comment about how it wasn’t difficult to use, and then walked away again. His dismissive attitude left us feeling embarrassed and frustrated, which was surprising given Hai Di Lao’s renowned focus on customer satisfaction.
We continued to struggle with the tablet, but it was clear that the waiter had no intention of assisting us further. At this point, I decided to approach the reception staff to explain the situation. I calmly shared our experience with the rude and unhelpful waiter, hoping that they would take action to resolve the issue, perhaps by reassigning another staff member or offering an apology.
However, the response from the reception staff was equally disappointing. While they listened to my concerns, there was no sense of urgency or empathy in their reaction. They did not offer any apologies or attempt to fix the situation. It was clear that they were not taking the complaint seriously, which only compounded our frustration.
Given the lack of support from both the waiter and the management, my dining companions and I decided to leave the restaurant altogether. We were deeply disappointed, as we had looked forward to the Hai Di Lao experience, which is famous for its exceptional service and attention to detail. Instead, we left feeling disrespected and let down.
Hai Di Lao has built its brand on offering outstanding customer service, and while I had heard many positive stories, my experience was the exact opposite. The waiter’s rudeness and the indifferent response from the reception staff were far below the standards the restaurant is known for. I sincerely hope that management takes this feedback to heart and works on improving their service, so that other customers do not have to face the same kind of disappointing experience in the future.
