🌱 Vegetarian for 12 Years – Honest Review 🌱
Penang Asam Laksa – 1/5 😞 Unfortunately, this was a major letdown. The broth lacked fragrance and depth—completely missing the signature bold, tangy punch of an authentic Penang asam laksa. If compared with Penang's Laksa, I found this version far below the standard. Compared to what’s offered at certain vegetarian spots back home, the gap in quality is night and day.
Hainanese Kaya Butter Toast – 5/5 🥇 Easily one of the top three kaya butter toasts I’ve had. The toast was perfectly balanced—crispy yet not hard, soft but not soggy. The kaya was pleasantly fragrant and not overly sweet, and the butter was rich and flavorful. A must-try!
Handmade Dried Noodles (手工面) – 5/5 🍜 Absolutely delicious. The handmade noodles were silky, springy, and full of eggy aroma. Thin yet firm with excellent texture—this dish really stood out for its craftsmanship and flavor.
Mala Sauce Dumplings – 5/5 🔥 Outstanding. Fragrant, spicy, and addictive. These dumplings could hold their own against Din Tai Fung’s version—minus the 5 pungent, of course. As a vegetarian, this is a huge plus. Definitely one of the highlights.
Nasi Lemak – 4/5 🍛 Fragrant sambal and flavorful curry gave this dish a strong foundation. The only drawback was the rice, which was on the soft and sticky side. With firmer, more distinct grains, this could easily be a 5-star dish.
Service – 1/5 ⚠️ This is not the first time I’ve experienced poor service here. On one weekend visit, I was the very first customer to arrive and place an order. However, the staff served the same dish to three other tables that ordered after me—while mine never came. Despite a low customer volume that morning, they still managed to mix up orders. It’s clear that better order management is needed. I strongly recommend switching to a QR code ordering system to reduce human error. My time was wasted, and I left feeling frustrated.
📌 Final Thoughts The food, with the exception of the Penang Asam Laksa, was generally impressive—especially the noodles and dumplings. However, the service remains a serious weak point that overshadows the dining experience. I’d return for the food, but sincerely hope the service team improves. Good food deserves better...
Read moreFirst of all, we were not aware that this restaurant served only vegetarian food until we saw the description in google map. I am okay with vegetarian food, but my spouse.. not so much.
Anyway, the Lei Cha was good, I enjoyed it. Portions was big. Nyonya Curry Ramen was also good. Love the noodles, not too soft and rich thick broth.
The only issue was the time waited for the ramen. Lei Cha was served after 15 min upon ordering. But the Nyonya Curry Ramen was served nearly half hour later. This made us rushing for the next 10-15 minutes to finish our lunch because we have prior appointments. Even the customers next to our table whom came in much later got all their orders first.
I understand if ramen requires more time to prepare for maintaining it’s quality. However, customers should be informed in advance that it would take at least 20-25 min for the ramen to be prepared. Either the waiter/waitress to be trained to inform the customers or clearly state that in the menu. At least give the customers a choice either to wait a little longer for the ramen, or choose another food that can be prepared faster. This is also to cater to working people with less than one hour left on their lunch break.
Definitely not fun to see customers that came in much later got all their food first. LOL. Especially when feeling so hungry while waiting for your own food to arrive and had to see your partner eating first for 10 minutes and almost finished their food.
Overall, the restaurant was nice and cooling with aircond. But the noise was unbearable. The sounds bounce back from the walls made the place felt like a big food court. Nice to see people eating happily and chat away during their lunch break. But this is not a place to have your quiet meal.
Parking at these area a bit hard to find. Suggest to park at the heroes market parking lot or the PFCC building and walk a little bit. Less stressful than trying to find a parking spot during...
