A hidden place in Sliema, located right next to Starbucks, Kyoto Japanese Bakery is a delightful place to enjoy something different, delicious, and uniquely Japanese. I popped in for a quick bite and was genuinely impressed by both the quality and charm of the place.
I ordered a double espresso and one of their Chocolate Chip breads, which was soft, light, and spongy—perfectly baked and not overly sweet. The coffee was also great, strong and smooth, just the way I like it.
The bakery display is beautiful and full of tempting options. I’ll be attaching photos of everything to show just how much variety they offer. From sausage rolls and chicken curry pastries to bacon epi, matcha-infused treats, and other delicate Japanese-style desserts, there’s something here to please every palate. The portions are ideal for a quick snack or light lunch, and everything is presented with care and attention to detail.
What really made the experience special was the warm and friendly service. The staff were welcoming and kind, and they took time to explain some of the baked goods I hadn’t tried before. You can really feel the passion behind the concept.
Kyoto Bakery is a refreshing change from the usual cafés around town—a place where Japanese flavours meet a European café vibe. Whether you’re just passing by or specifically seeking it out, it’s definitely worth a visit. A unique and charming spot that adds something truly special to the...
Read moreIt used to be much better, sadly feel the quality has dropped. I think they have changed owner from before, before there used to be a Japanese owner I think and Filipino staff, at that time it was really nice. Now the staff seems to be Western, I am not sure where they are from, but well it doesn't really matter. Now frankly, compared to before, it is just OK. Before the melon pan used to be really crunchy and nice, now it was very soft and not as flavourful as before, although still OK. The sandwich was also OK. The matcha latte and houjicha latte also used to be better. On the top of this, they have increased the prices compared to before, and there are many less options of flavours of the melon pan, they used to have a lot of flavours. It's a shame because it used to be really good, now I feel it's just alright, not bad but OK and not more. And it's definitely overpriced for what you get. I used to really like it and we would come once in a while, but probably will not be coming often anymore. I miss how it was with the previous...
Read moreI think it looks nice. They have a variety of food which all look rather interesting, I ordered a toastie, milkshake and some Valentine’s Day biscuits, I also got to try a free sample of a fluffy chocolate cheese cake which I wasn’t too fond of as it had an unusual taste. The toastie was nice but filling as the bread was unusually thick, the milkshake was quite delicious and comes with sweet bread not exactly sure what it’s called but was good. Was going to try the salted caramel sweet bread with cream but decided not to which was fortunate as I later on saw a few flies on the exact thing I was planning on ordering. I would recommend they get a plastic flap/door so they’re able to close off access to the sweet bread as it’s constantly open and enabled flies to enter. The biscuits were okay but they were very dry. I would still recommend this place just maybe go for everything else...
