Trattoria Lipari — Restaurant in Sliema

What a great place to have lunch on the edge of the harbour to view the water and people watch . A lovely, warm welcome from Carlo who appreciated our attempts to speak Italian. The starters were tuna tartare and salmon ‘cheesecake’(salmon tartare with cream cheese and pistachio crust). Both were delicious and the salmon and tuna melted in the mouth and tasted so fresh. Generous portion size and filling. We then both had pasta dishes, a ravioli with aubergine and langoustine fettuccini. Again beautifully cooked. Pasta al dente and sauces full of flavour. Again generous serving. Very full up at end. The staff were very attentive and plates cleared as if by magic! (but never felt rushed) The total included 2 glasses of wine,2 soft drinks and water and was very good value, given the quality and quantity of the food. We were a party of three, me, my wife and our 8 year old son.

We ordered the shrimp arancini for starters. They were delish. We continued with linguine alle vongole and linguine ai frutti di mare. Both were top notch. The pasta took a slightly longer to arrive than usual (maybe 5 minutes more), we barely noticed the delay. After having coffee, we asked for the bill. I noticed that the restaurant had deducted the amount of the starters and told them that there was a mistake since we consumed the starter. The restaurant informed us that they deducted the starter because they kept us waiting for the mains.

Terrible service. We were greeted by an unfriendly waitress who had no consideration for our elderly mum as she wanted to place us on high stools even though the restaurant was nearly empty. She then placed us practically on the road on a table of 4 when we were 5. The tiny, non efficient fans could hardly be felt and it was so hot and humid. To make things worse, all waiters ignored us more than once and noone came to take our order. We had no other alternative but to leave and order from a closer kiosk. Really disappointed and will...
