Marrobbio – Where Pizza Shines and Pasta Surprises
Today we stopped by Marrobbio for a bite. I’ve been here before and their pizza has always been outstanding, but this time we decided to try the pasta. My son and I went for spaghetti allo scoglio, while my wife (who is not Italian) decided to try gnocchi for the first time in her life.
Before talking about the food, I have to compliment the ambiance — warm, cozy, and familiar. The waitress and waiter were polite, attentive, and made us feel welcome. The décor is exactly what you’d expect from a genuine family-style trattoria where you know you’ll eat well.
When the food arrived, the presentation stood out: each portion served in its own skillet, adding a rustic and original touch. The pasta was clearly handmade. The spaghetti allo scoglio was loaded with seafood and full of flavor, while the gnocchi came with a generous tomato and cheese sauce.
My wife didn’t enjoy the gnocchi — not because they weren’t good (they were excellent) but simply because she’s not used to their taste. Naturally, I had to sacrifice myself and finish them, even asking for bread to make a proper scarpetta.
In conclusion, Marrobbio is not only a master of pizza — their pasta is equally amazing. Congratulations to the team for another...
Read moreA friend organized a dinner to try their ‘fixed €25 menu’ to celebrate his birthday and it was an absolute disaster.
Our tables were in the back of the restaurant. It was incredibly crammed, hot and stuffy. Apparently all 3 AC’s were out of order.
Drinks and wine were included in the menu, but the waiters barely came next to us to serve us. We were truly forgotten in the back room. One particular waiter was incredibly rude when we ordered multiple drinks at once, seemed like drink serving was about him.
After more than an hour wait we were finally served with our first pizzas. Very particular toppings, such as goat’s cheese without consulting us.
Over two hours in most of us had just had only one slice, along with some random chips and crochets as starters.
Fast forward to the desert, where one waitresses dropped a nutella balls on a friend’s white sweater.
Restaurant decor is straight out of a 70’s soviet era hotel lobby.
Overall it was a miserable experience topped off with terrible service.
If you’d like to indulge in a good pizza visit their Marrobio’s Naxxar outlet. We have never left disappointed.
Avoid this €25 scam and just order from the normal menu, our friend...
Read moreVery average pizza and pasta in taste and also in the quality of ingredients. We did not find the food tasty. The same I would say about the service. Male waiters had “an attitude”. When we entered the cashier guy asked us if we has reserved a table. I said no, and I grasped a difficulty from him to give us a table so he called another guy to find us one. The tables were occupied at around 50% at that time and did not get full until we left (1 h later). However the second guy told us to sit in the last table in the back, next to the toilet and the cuisine, so literally the worst one! Then I politely asked if we could sit on another table and he said in an arrogant vibe “sit wherever you want” . So we did. But as I said, it was not a good experience and not cheap for the lack of taste/ quality, so we regret having our first dinner in Malta there. PS the female waitress was polite but she brought us mineral instead of sparkling water. Thats really not a big deal but if I had at leasr tasty food and/or polite treatment I would not complain...
