El Squid Roe - Cabo Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Ildefonso Green

I'm very suspect of the high reviews for this restaurant.

Don't come here for dinner.

The food is awful. I mistakenly read another review that suggested this place was good. It's definitely a fun party spot, but the food is literally awful.

If Dollar General sold fried calamari this is what it would be like. You have to see it to believe it. Imagine a thick, soft, fluffy, half inch thick layer of white bread surrounding a mysterious pencil lead thick core of something.

The surf and turf was cafeteria quality. The steak was tough and grizzly. The lobster was overcooked.

There was a small side of mashed potatoes. it's a good thing I actually like instant mashed potatoes, because these mashed potatoes were as instant as they come.

And a true sign of terrible quality food is microwaved bread. The toasted garlic bread was fresh out of the microwave. You can tell it comes out of a microwave when 45 seconds after you bite into it it turns into a virtually impenetrable rubbery substance.

The food service was outstanding. The server was fast and friendly.

All but one of the employees was properly wearing a face mask. Unfortunately, the one not wearing the face mask was the woman trying to push the jello shots. She stopped by my table three times unmasked.

I was referred to this place by my tasting food tour guide and I really enjoyed the decor and vibe for the first hour. Everything about it seemed great but it went south pretty fast. I probably had 3 drinks and I am not sure if I was deliberately spiked but I blacked out between 1-2 am when the place was closing down. I luckily got back to my senses and reached my hotel. However, during that time, my iPhone was stolen, there were additional charges made on my US credit card which I am positive i didn't authorize, and I was charged exorbitant price by the taxi guy who is also in on the scam.

I am glad they atleast cared about my safety and dropped me back at the right hotel. However, I am convinced that the phone theft and over charging is a scheme run by the establishment and not an isolated incident. Read Tripadvisor or Google reviews and there are plenty of similar stories.

If you still must have fun here, go as a group and book a booth. Wandering alone as if this was the States was a big mistake and I will never do this again in a foreign land especially when so many are desperate for livelihood after...

4/23/25 9:00pm was there with wedding party. We have a condo in Cabo San Lucas. We went to Squid Roe and the security wouldn’t let one of our local friends in with wedding party. They said it was to full and then he was to drunk which he wasn’t as they let me in from behind. I was completely sober. I told the security if he doesn’t let him in the wedding party is going to leave. Another security from behind soccer bunched him and threw him down to the ground his wife tried to defend him as I just tried separate the situation. I never hit anyone as I yelled mostly as saying let them go and stop. They waved the cops over and arrested my local friends and wife including me. The main security smiles and smirked at me as I was getting in the cop car. After arrested, several including security going to family and friends asking for $500-$1000 dollars that they will get me out. What a scam right! I always go to Cabo and frankly u will always see police near by as I am sure they get kickbacks for the arrest, as cops r always there.
