I saw a review pop up on the Puerto Vallarta area's Yelp feed which is what brought us here for breakfast.
ATMOSPHERE: It's a cute little room with an attached open-view kitchen akin to eating in someone's home. The a/c was off so it was a bit warm but not uncomfortable. A few covered sidewalk tables were available.
MENU: Mexican breakfast selections. I don't think they're open for dinner but breakfast went well past noon.
FOOD: Bienadictos Mexicanos - $5.25 I wouldn't normally order this as it comes with a plain Jane English muffin, but a fellow Yelper's review convinced me otherwise. The meat was sliced skirt steak, very tender and flavorful, with the hollandaise sauce replaced by a creamy chipotle sauce with a slight kick. Perfect portion size and great taste. My only gripe is that the side of hash browns were a tease. I'm not an infant!? LOL. Also, my iPhone's camera had a brain fart so my pic of this dish was not saved.
French Toast - $4.00 Nothing home to write about as the four halves were mainstream and good.
Fruit Plate Seasonal - $3.25 USD The spouse's dish. In addition to the fruits, the bowl was also topped with yogurt and granola. The spoonful I had was fresh & delicious. Generous portion for the price.
Vegetarian Omelet - $5.00 USD Don't judge me as I added bacon (and not charged for it) to the mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and asparagus-filled omelet. Gotta have a salty meat with my eggs! Fluffy and folded, it also came with a few sticks of crispy seasoned salt steak fries and fresh melon.
SERVICE: The hostess and server were both welcoming and friendly.
TIP: The orange juice was freshly squeezed.
OVERALL: They're located on a little dead end street so it wasn't crowded at all. Go...
Read moreWe returned to Azul Bistro and are so happy to be back! Every bit as good as we remembered it. This time I had the Omelet 3 Queso con Tocino and it was heavenly. My wife had the Huevos Azul and it exceeded her expectations. Everything was incredibly yummy and the refried beans are the best in Puerto Vallarta. We highly recommend this place for breakfast!
From March 2018: Our niece had recommended Azul Bistro to us and we are so glad we discovered this gem. Open since last September, this place prides itself on serving simply good food and that is very much true.
The Good It is pretty much all good. I got the chilaquiles con carne with mole and poblano salsas. The mole is hands down the best I've ever had. Deep, rich, and with just the right sweetness. The poblano was extremely flavorful as well. The refried beans were also incredibly yummy, so much so that my wife ate mine and ordered her own side of beans. She ordered the benadictos mexicanos and was in heaven. The chipotle sauce was simply amazing. The right amount of spice with wonderful zest and flavor. The owner is very attentive and wants to ensure your meal is made to your satisfaction.
The Bad The only bad is that we didn't come here sooner. We are coming back tomorrow to try their huevos azul and omelet 3 quesos con tocino. We are looking forward to it!
We highly recommend you come here for breakfast and...
Read moreWe've been visiting PV for years and only discovered Bistro Azul on our visit in February. It was so good that we ate three meals there, the most awesome being the traditional Saturday night Chiles en Nogado dinner...two glasses of wine, two salads, two entrees and two fabulous desserts for 54 USD! It's a fixed meal (always Chiles en Nogada) for this dinner and if you've never tasted this fabulous dish, it's delicious and we both agreed it was the best we've ever tasted.
The owner (and one-third of the staff) is a delightful guy named Ceasar and operated a much larger restaurant until his divorce. And despite the VERY limited size of this new restaurant, he says he'd never go back to operating a large restaurant again. You'll need reservations, especially for the special Saturday night dinner. Breakfast and lunch, with a varied menu, were great, too.
It's located a block south of Freddie's Toucan which is on Basilio Badillo in the...
