De Cantaro — Restaurant in Jalisco

I just had the absolute worst dining experience in Puerto Vallarta that I have ever had in all the years living and visiting here, at this restaurant. I have ate here many times in the past and I normally order the ribeye tonight I order the ribeye, and it was extremely hard and tough. A gentleman who was dressed the same as the weight staff approached me and asked me what the problem was and I told him he took the steak away and came back and he told me that he tried a bite of it, and it was no problem whatsoever. I’ve explained that this was the very first time that I’ve ever had a bad problem with a steak. The gentleman basically called me a liar, insisting that he had no problem with the steak and that he’s never had an issue. I told him I’d never come back he laughed and the hostess said see you soon lady while laughing.

The steak was obviously very hard, very thick and very tough. I have never complained at a restaurant here ever. This is the first time I said anything and I wasn’t even complaining I just pushed the meal aside and simply said it’s hard and tough tonight. Repeating I’ve never said anything before. He was extremely rude to me to the point where I was very shook up as I left the restaurant. I didn’t even wait till the meal was over. I just left. I will never ever ever ever step one foot in that place ever again.! Because I’m a women he looked down at me and was degrading to me and laughed in my face. So not only was the food bad, the service ( not our waiter) but that man maybe the head of the wait staff maybe the owner probably , was obnoxious and extremely rude!!!

I would NOT ever eat here again if it was free!!!!! Happy Valentines Day...

I can’t rave about this place enough. The food was amazing. The atmosphere was perfect. I would rate this dinner a 10 out of 10. My dad had the salmon and I had the steak. BEST squid (calamari) I’ve ever had. There were also numerous diffeeent types of food for all tastes. All the food in Puerto Vallerta was amazing but I highly recommend this stop. It has a fancy feel and they treat you like a 5 star reataurant, and at the same time you can go as casual as you want. There are big screen tv’s If you would like to watch a game on silent with very relaxing music in the background.

My server was Jorge, and he was FANTASTIC. He speaks English as well and has an immense knowledge about food, wine, and drinks. (He has even had his own restaurant so he knows all the ins and outs) Jorge and his team made the experience extremely memorable. The whole staff is great and also cater to food intolerances. The chef even made a sauce special for my dad since he is allergic to onions.

The house red was from Chile and was fantastic. The bread was so good and the sauce that it comes with makes it taste delicious. This is the second time I have been here and I will go back every time I visit. It is priced perfectly as it doesn’t break the bank but it is worth every penny.

The food, server, staff, conversations, and atmosphere make this place a perfect spot for friends, family, couples, and have something for everyone.

This will be on my list of places to go every time I come and I left extremely satisfied.

2025 review: I returned to PV after two years, was really looking forward to come back for their food. HoweverI left very disappointed.

It’s unclear if they changed the management, but the menu has completely changed. There’s no grill whole fish anymore, and the food is terrible. The guacamole tastes very bland with stale chips, and they only serve grilled fish fillets instead of whole fish. The octopus I ordered came with only four tentacles, whereas last time I had a whole octopus. They’ve also removed many good items from the menu. It’s now very Americanized Mexican food with a high price tag.

The service was extremely slow. We were seated right away, but no one came to check on us or take our order for 15 minutes.

2023 review: Came here for lunch on a Wednesday it was very empty. The place is very cute covered outdoor space. A lot of grilled dishes in the menu. We were one of the two tables dining at that time so our service was great, fast and attentive. Highly recommend to try their deep fried ribeye with bone marrow; do remember to add the sea salt because it doesn’t have flavor: and the highlight is the grill fish. We shared the 1kg fish which is small for them, do ask the options tho, the fish is quite big...
