We were on the hunt for a great, authentic Mexican dining experience in Puerto Vallarta and initially visited Pancho Tacos based on its social media fame. Unfortunately, the visit didn’t live up to our expectations. Many dishes were cooked alongside non-vegetarian items, and the open setup attracted numerous insects. The long waiting line also diminished the appeal.
Thankfully, we then discovered Freddy’s Tucan at Basilio Badillo 245, Zona Romántica, Emiliano Zapata on November 28, 2024 —and what a fantastic find it was! This breakfast-only restaurant, open until 2 p.m., delivered an exceptional experience in every way.
We ordered the Vegan Chile Relleno and the Burrito Vegano, both of which were outstanding.
The Vegan Chile Relleno featured a perfectly roasted poblano pepper stuffed with a savory mix of vegetables and seasoned to perfection. It was topped with a tangy, flavorful tomato sauce that added a delightful kick.
The Burrito Vegano was generously filled with beans, rice, and fresh vegetables, all wrapped in a soft tortilla. The ingredients were well-seasoned, and every bite was hearty, balanced, and satisfying.
We were also delighted to receive complimentary bread and tacos at the start of our meal, a thoughtful touch that made us feel welcome and added to the overall experience. The fresh juices were equally refreshing and a perfect match for the flavorful dishes.
Freddy’s Tucan impressed us with its delicious vegan-friendly options, warm service, and clean, inviting atmosphere. We highly recommend it for a relaxed and satisfying breakfast experience in Puerto Vallarta. It’s a true gem that...

The energy seemed great when we first arrived and the young lady taking names was adorable. While I was giving her my name a bald man came over, barked at her and her face crumpled. The yelling man asked me my name and # in party. As I gave it to him he yelled at me "don't spell it!" Not sure how saying my name equates to spelling it, but whatever -- way to welcome paying clients! The wait would be 25 minutes, and he firmly told me not to walk around or I'd lose my spot on the written waitlist. I'd read great reviews so we waited instead of walking around the close, cute neighborhood. Wish we'd walked and kept on going ....
The waiter told us bread would be delivered to our table, so when another waiter came by to give us muffins we'd thought that's what it was. Only when we received our bill did we see we'd been charged for those muffins--neither waiter had explained there would be an additional charge. When we were first seated I'd overheard a fellow US family asking about their extra charges, but only when we found ours did we understand to what they must have been referring.
In Spanish I'd ordered the vegetarian Benedict. The ham version arrived and Julio the waiter actually argued with me that I had not ordered the veg version. My husband rolled his eyes because we all know what I ordered and Julio wouldn't just accept he'd made a mistake. I've been veg for 31 years -- I don't make those mistakes. Ever.
The food was middling, the service atrocious. We'll...

ATMOSPHERE: The busy corner restaurant is now fully air conditioned, even the former patio in the back. We've seen them crazy busy in March where wait times can be about an hour, and most recently in June where we could walk right in.
MENU: Mexican & American breakfast items, crepes, salads, soups, sandwiches, smoothies, milkshakes, coffees, alcohol.
BEVERAGE: The smoothies are excellent as is their iced coffee.
FOOD: Pancakes The 3-stacker was moist yet dense but still tasty. We opted for strawberries as a topping, but be forewarned that there was a light sauce to it though it wasn't overly sweet.
Omelettes I've had good luck with omelettes in PV and this was no exception. Fluffy and loaded with cheese, sliced ham, bacon, and fresh mushrooms, with a side of crispy hash browns too. Very delish!
Mascota Eggs Two poached eggs sat on small fried tortillas with a bit of smoked pork loin, covered with a bean chipotle sauce, then topped with panela cheese sticks, with half an avocado to the side.
SERVICE: The service was top notch, from the host, to all the servers who assisted us. And they take it seriously too, with numbered-controlled comment cards.
TIP: Cash only. Free but slow WiFi.
OVERALL: Great prices like most of PV, excellent service,...
