My recent visit to Jasper Restaurant in Thamel was an absolute delight, offering an exceptional culinary experience that exceeded my expectations. Despite the initial challenge of finding the restaurant due to inadequate signage and directions, everything else about the experience was simply outstanding.
Upon entering, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the stage for a memorable dining experience. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, adding to the overall positive impression. Although it took a bit of wandering around, the journey was well worth it.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the sushi. As a sushi aficionado, I had high expectations, and Jasper Restaurant surpassed them. The sushi was fresh, expertly prepared, and beautifully presented. Each piece was a burst of flavors that showcased the chef's skill and attention to detail. It was evident that only the finest ingredients were used, and the quality of the sushi spoke for itself.
Apart from the sushi, I also had the opportunity to try their Nepali thali, and it was equally impressive. The thali offered a delightful assortment of flavors, with each component perfectly complementing the others. The combination of traditional Nepali dishes, such as dal, rice, curries, and pickles, left me thoroughly satisfied and gave me a taste of the authentic local cuisine.
The service throughout the meal was impeccable, with the staff being attentive, polite, and prompt. They were happy to provide recommendations and cater to specific dietary preferences, ensuring a personalized dining experience.
While the restaurant could benefit from improved signage and directions to ease the process of finding it, I can confidently say that once inside, Jasper Restaurant is a hidden gem worth discovering. The exceptional quality of the food, the welcoming atmosphere, and the attentive service make it a must-visit for sushi enthusiasts and those seeking an authentic Nepali thali...
Read moreMy fiancé and I ordered their Jasper Lava (supposedly a sushi dish which was highly recommended to us by a server) and a Chicken Thali. After reading so many good reviews about this place we really were looking forward to satiating our sushi craving and nice thali at this place. Turned out to be thoroughly disappointing at all fronts except for a quaint seating in their little garden!
None of the two servers who were serving us came over after the meals being served to check on us. We had to get their attention a couple of times. The only “sushi” we could get was a prawn set, and their wasabi had no kick to it at all. The underwhelming dish was overly priced even for a western standard.
And, the chicken thali was passable. The chicken curry had three super bony meat pieces. The lentils were mediocre and the yoghurt was okay. The cauliflower curry on the side was cold. All the items on the thali were tiny.
Now, the biggest bummer was when I asked the server, who was taking our order, about a little second servings, I was told since I was sharing my thali with my partner, I am not entitled to. But, a regular person going out to eat a thali is entitled to a second serving, while I was not (just because I shared a little bit of my meal with my loved one?) Ridiculous innit? What kind of hospitality is that? I have never been to a thakali place with such a meagre portion of veggies, achar, and chutney. And yet, “I should have known” about the non-sharing policy. Also, the server would talk over me as I was politely telling him about my subpar experience with his service.
We left half full and dismayed looking for another restaurant. Jasper definitely is an...

We stopped by Jasper Restaurant while exploring Kathmandu, and it ended up being one of our favorite meals. The place has a chilled, welcoming vibe – perfect for taking a break from the busy streets of Thamel.
I had the momos, which were fresh and juicy – honestly some of the best I’ve had in Nepal so far. My wife went for the Thakali chicken set, which was packed with flavor and came with all the traditional sides. My daughter tried the classic chicken with rice – simple, but done really well and super satisfying.
The staff were friendly and made us feel at home, and we liked the option to sit outside and enjoy the evening. We decided to sit inside. Prices were reasonable too, especially for the quality of food and the location.
If you’re in Kathmandu and want something local but clean and consistent, Jasper is a solid pick. We’ll definitely be back before we...
