I had a wonderful visit to Yala Cafe, a peaceful gem tucked down a quiet alley in Thamel. The charming outdoor seating area surrounded by greenery creates a lovely setting to enjoy your morning brew or a relaxed afternoon bite . The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between cozy and bright, blending traditional touches with modern flair .
The menu is thoughtfully curated—from hearty breakfasts like Eggs Benedict, country breakfasts, and pancakes, to a range of Nepali and international dishes at lunch and dinner . I especially enjoyed the Sunny Morning Power breakfast with sautéed veggies and a side of fresh juice, plus the house-made espresso using Nepali beans. The coffee was smooth and aromatic, and their teas, particularly the Ilam black and masala chai, were flavorful and comforting .
Service was friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm—staff happily recommended dishes and offered tweaks, creating a genuine hospitality vibe . I’ve also read that tourists appreciate not just the service but also the insight and travel tips shared by staff .
A couple of minor drawbacks: prices are slightly above average for the area, especially dinners, and it can get busy during peak hours (though the wait is worth it if you snag a seat in the courtyard). A few dishes felt just shy of perfection, but most were consistently delicious.
Overall: Yala Cafe earns a solid 4 stars for its relaxing atmosphere, fresh and varied menu, high‑quality coffee and tea, and warm service. It’s a must‑visit whether you’re grabbing breakfast, unwinding with a drink, or lounging over lunch. Minor tweaks to pricing and kitchen consistency could elevate it even further, but it’s already a standout in...
Read moreYala cafe offers all kinds of food, no matter western food or authentic Nepali food, they are super tasty and healthy. I tried almost all the breakfasts which are all good and also tried several dishes for lunch. The presentation is beautiful and also the taste is good. And the co-chef Aashish is so patient and professional. When I asked for recommendation, he always gave me a good one according to my taste and preference. After finishing my food, he also asked me if the food was good or I had advice for improving the food. Definitely recommend to ask him for choosing your food at yala cafe. Except the chef , and also the waiters there are sooo friendly, patient, kind and always have cheerful smiling faces, especially Milan who always welcomed the guests with his nice smile and when you went to the table, he not only just asked if you’re ready to order, also he’s interested into the guests’ traveling in Nepal and what places they visited and what Nepali food they tried already, and I think this behavior made guests feel really warm and close to the place. And after finishing food, he also asked the guests if everything was good. All in all, Yala cafe not only has great food, friendly and cheerful atmosphere, but also has really great, nice and professional staff. Definitely worth spending some time there when you are...
Read moreThe ambience is good, its best especially if you want to have few of your work to be completed or want to read some books and relax. The dishes that were ordered were chicken thukpa, chicken samdwich and german cheese cake. After so long, there were good amount of chicken in the chicken thukpa and it really made me very happy 😂😂 and oh! the flavour of the soup was really delicious and savoury. For the sandwich, one can even ask for the brown bread option which I went for. And the sandwich was amazing. It would be really more good, if there was a good amount of cheese present inside the sandwich. I had a really great expectations set after enjoying those two above dishes for the dessert. But, the dessert was really not a cup of my tea. First of all, the cracker of the cheesecake was really really bad, and over the top the cheesecream was mixed with vanilla icecream and strawberry syrup was drizzled. The flavour was unbalanced and the icecream made it really hard for enjoying the overall flavour. So, overall it was good for a...
